Harry is a horcrux [message #278161] Mo, 05 Juni 2006 07:06
Taunto
I think Voldemort accidently transferred part of his soul to Harry when
he tried to kill him, making Harry a horcrux, which should generate some
very interesting plot turns and dilemmas on how to kill Voldemort.

Does Harry have to die for Voldemort to die?

This would explain Harry's "connection" with Voldemort.

Sorry if this has been covered before, but it just dawned on me, and
I've never been on this list before.

Ok, I've been reading the back threads, but couldn't respond to them.

And since I'm not going to read all of them before I venture an
opinion, I'll keep venturing opinions.

No he doesnt. Harry's horcrux is already destroyed.

Marvolo's ring was originally whole. After destruction it had a
lightning shaped crack. Just like on Harry's forehead.

How did it get destroyed?

Yeah, there is *no* canon saying marvolo's ring has/had anything to do
with Harry's scar. The ring was destroyed by Dumbledore, and it was a
horcrux, but the lightning-shaped crack in the ring doesn't mean
Harry's scar was a horcrux that has already been destroyed.

The "Harry is a horcrux" theory has some merit, but it's still VERY
weak....

The prophecy does not preclude both of them dying.

In fact, if Harry did die, it would propel the series even further into
the realm of classic literature.

I must learn to be more precise. The crack in Marvolo's ring is never
described as being lightning shaped. Sometimes a crack is just a crack.

BTW, I don't know what's on your birth certificate. But AbendrotBlutjaeger
(AbendrotBlutjäger) would seem more correct for the image of a teutonic

Actually I was going by the ring portrayed on the dust jacket of the
hard cover edition. While not canon, I don't think the ring with the
lightning bolt crack on it escaped JKR attention.

Why not just fly all over the damned place saying "Accio horcrux"? Are
the zombies in the lake going to fly up in the air behind it?

Authors don't get to choose what goes on the cover. Even Terry Pratchett
doesn't get that amount of control. Only once that I know of has JKR been
able to get a publisher to change a cover, and that was a European one
(I think Italian but I could be wrong) that had left off his glasses, and
she said the glasses were important to the characterization.

Well - then according to normal procedure here then - Harry is not a

Or perhaps you people went cheap and got yourself some pirated copy?

Unless other artwork has been comissioned for sale after the first
edition, the UK version of the book should have a ring on the top most
corner of the spine.

It's on the Canadian version as well.

But the author almost never has anything to do with the cover picture.

I agree! here's how i think it might have happened:

1. V kills lily causing a new rip in his soul
2. V sends AK on harry and the moment it hits harry, V sets about doing

the horcrux creating spell.
3. V has magically taken his soulbit out of himself (not realising it
is the soulbit ripped as a result of Lily's murder) and is about to
bind it to the object he brought with him when the rebounded AK hits
him.
4. V loses control of the spell and the soulbit is directed towards
harry instead of the object he intended to make a horcrux.
5. It enters harry and takes up residence alongside harry's own soul,
supplying harry with the traits that the Hat saw in him when it said
that he would do well in Slytherin.

> > Does Harry have to die for Voldemort to die?

i hope not. i think when unhorcrixifing himself harry's scar will
disappear but he won't die.

yup it sure would

a few of us have been trying to get people around here to see that
there is a real possiblilty that JKR has planned all along for harry to
be revealed as a horcrux in book7!
