This may be taking HP fanwankery to a whole new level, but......
I remember in GoF the males were growing crazy over the siren-like
powers of the veela. But then I wondered: is this something that can
only magically happen to males, or to anyone attracted to women? Would
homosexual wizards be immune to the lure of the veela, and owuld
homosexual witches react in the same way as we saw other males behaving
in the book?

There's just no telling, and I doubt that JKR will ever comment on the
issue.

Or, to complicate the question, does it depend on which gender the veela
herself is attracted to?

Good question. Rowling was obviously intending the response to the Veela
to be a parody of rather stereotypical adolescent heterosexual male
behavior, so I suspect that it would only affect those who are prone to
such behavior. As far as I know, lesbian teenagers don't in general engage
in bragging and showoffery[tm] in order to impress other girls, so I doubt
they'd be affected. Same would hold true for gay males.

Gay males react to men like women, but lesbians do not act like men to
women. So, a gay man would not be affected by Vellas, nor would a
lesbian. Maybe they'd be a bit more open to a Veela's suggestion, but
nothing like the zombie like men

We can say with certainty that a man under the influence of a Veela is
not in his right mind; consequently we cannot claim that the fellows
observed bragging to the Veela ordinarily bragged to the women (or
witches) that they were trying to impress.

I think, in general, it affects interested parties by causing their
wands to grow larger in their pockets.
They all have wands, right?

I think the effects of the Veela are primarily on horny 14 year old
boys.

Good. So at last we can rule out at least one of the many improbable
book 7 predictions found around here: Harry, Ron and Draco won't fall
in love with each other and live happily ever after.

The what is the point of even having a book 7.

Oh, well, we still have lots of other males that can fall in love :D
I just think JKR doesn't have the guts to something like Pullman did
when he created two gay angels :)
