I

don't think so. Given that Pterry's naming puns back in the day were on
the level of One Sun Mirror (shoulda been Stern Spiegel Bild in German
btw) and "Sung Tzu or Sung Tze or some other, unSung guy", no, I really
don't think so.

Both the "two" = "dis" part and the "flower" = "aster" part are rather
far-fetched.
It's just as likely as "two flower" references 2p (which had a flower the
last time I saw one). In other words pretty far-fetched, especially since
pterry isn't to my knowledge in the habit of lying about these things.
Just my tuppence...

Di is two, not Dis.

Sorry Mhuben, but I'm with everyone else on this one. The word "Dis" might
sound like "Two" the way it's spoken in the English language, but my
parent's are of Greek origin, and they've always pronounced it more like
"Thio". And although he got the word "Aster" pretty much correct, even if
he did add the two words together, he'd still only get the name "Twostar"
- Twostar who's he? :-)

But what about that other famous character, Duodaffodil?

To be fair, he's not accusing Pterry of lying, he's saying the
fact Pterry didn't intend anything doesn't mean you can't come
up with something.
I agree, however, that what he's come up with is probably a
bit far-fetched. I liked it though.

Umm, didn't Pterry pinch that one off that famous childrens TV series,
Bill and Ben? You see, Ben was the other "Duo-for-Bill", and they both
communicated to each other in this strange, mysterious flubble-dubble
language that nobody else understood except a little Rince-weed that sat
between them.
He just thought "Duodaffodil", and "Duo-for-Bill" was too close an
opportunity to leave behind - especially as they were all flowers too, not
stars or whatknot. He could also use Duodaffodil to travel around with
Rince(is a)weed whereas I suppose Bill and Ben were solitary, and stuck in
those flower pots, and so they could have lot's of fab adventures
together! :-)
