I thought you guys might find this interesting;

Over at http://tolkiengateway.net they are having a petition to get
Google to showcase a Tolkien-themed logo on their homepage on January
3rd, 2007 (the Professor's birthday). It's a pretty cool idea, Sherlock
Holmes is on Google's logo today, in my opinion Tolkien definitely
ranks up there with the other artists and authors who have been
featured. While it's a long stretch, Google taking ideas for their
logo, but it's worth a shot and there's already some very well done
concept images.
