Hey, what are the chances that some good writers will come on board for
a final sendoff of the Simpsons. The sad truth is that pop culture has
become too vapid to make a smart and intelligent show a contender for
primetime ratings. So many people have told me I'm being an overly
critical asshole elitist when I criticize the "New Simpsons", but I
don't think its that deep. It's far too obvious when the new writers
are doing things like dropping in references that haven't been used
since like the third season("frosty chocolate milkshakes", the Happy
Little Elves), evidence that they never watched the shows before they
sat down and watched the DVD collections. Outside of pay channels, good
comedy on television doesn't exist anymore. And people who hate the
Conan O Brien years have lame taste in humor. Conan O Brien, Bob
Odenkirk and David Cross are all related and do the same sort of smart
absurd humor. I mean, come on... if you were watching back when the
show hit its stride, did you think you'd ever NOT watch new Simpsons
episodes every week? It was something to look forward to. Anyway, it's
even more frustrating because there have to be good writers out there.
A huge franchise like the SImpsons could probably recruit anyone they
wanted. Who's fucking the creative control in the ASS? Are they TRYING
to suck?

I'm going to go with:
It is still a good show, not as great as it has been - but they have
certainly amused me (I am easily amused)
So perhaps the new ones seem worse when compared to some of the great older
ones. A matter of relativity.
The new ones certainly seem better when compared to watching something like
Fox "news". And the approval ratings go off the chart, if you compare them
to a flaming big penis car ink pin jammed in the eye. (ouch).
I like them better than "Family Guy", too.
And yet... the old ones seemed funnier to me, too. Probably difficult to
keep up that level for every episode, every year.
ciao,
Gary

Getting good writers to come on board? That's hard to say - who knows
in advance who's a good writer of animation?
Getting good writers to come on board for a final sendoff? Pretty
much zero - if you do something that "ends" the show, you close the
door to ever making new episodes or movies, and even though the comic
books are technically a different continuity, it would probably affect
those sales as well.
(Unless, of course, you go into the future and end it there - then,
you can always "return to the present" for more stories.)

Are we discussing the "end" of the Simpsons, or the "enf" of the
Simpsons. Either way, the subject was beaten to death a long time ago.
We all advocate that the last episode should be a spoof of the last
episodes of other famous TV shows, and famous movies. Like Catch-22.
Homer can escape from a hospital, and last be seen paddling a small
rubber raft.
1. The ending of several famous movies, "2001", "Dr. Stranglelove",
and others you guys may remember better than I, have already been
parodied in OFF. Sorry, I don't have time for the "Boys From Brazil"
joke right now.
2. The scene from the last episode of MASH was spoofed in OFF one
time.
