This sounds absolutely mouth-watering! :-)
Is it actually in the shops yet? Does anyone have it yet?

Gah! You just had to do that, didn't you ;)
How much does it weigh, I wonder? And how little can I manage with for
a week of camp when I go the UK this summer ;-)

Depends. Are you taking this as well:

:-)
That's not my list BTW, it was the second hit on a Google search for
"Tolkien library".

I actually tried to order this last week, after seeing a short review
here: http://www.worldwidewords.org/reviews/re-rin1.htm
Evidently, it won't be available until May 31 (at least in the U.S.)
but can be pre-ordered.

Well, I went into a shop last weekend, and I pleased to report that I
managed to find the book and buy it. I am about halfway through reading
it, and I can say without a doubt that it is an absolute must-have for
anyone interested in Tolkien and words.
So, in case you missed it up above, here is the link again. :-)
http://www.oup.co.uk/isbn/0-19-861069-6
/The Ring of Words/
Among the words discussed, along with absorbing sections on Tolkien's
work at the OED and his skill as a wordsmith, there are entries
discussing many words used by Tolkien. Among these are other words that
form part of his legacy. Tolkienesque and Tolkienian are now in the OED
(Oxford English Dictionary) as the most widely used of several words
referencing Tolkien (others include Tolkienist, and, presumably,
Tolkienology).
An absolutely fascinating read. Hurry up and read it before I start
throwing other linguistic tidbits from the book into my posts! :-)

Good to know! BTW, the last book I asked you about, Forgotten Realm I
think it was: badly written book, though I buy the basic premise (but
NOT every detail....too many times they just say things like "Tolkien
must have known this because he was TOlkien" kinds of things), which is
that the medieval (and Late Antique) retellings of the Fall of Troy (a
ubiquitous tale in the middle ages from all sorts of sources) influenced
Tolkien's work particularly when comparing Gondor and Gondolin. But I
can't recommend the book, however much I think the point is correct.
But glad to hear that this one is good! The Electronic OED has been
touting it on their website and I have it on my wish list (ok, I have a
lot on my wish list...but)
