I was reading the Da Vinci Code and on page 352 I was stunned! I read the
name.... Nicolas Flamel. Interesting! Ok, I'm done ;)

Most people would be stunned. Nicolas Flamel was a real live Fr*nch
alchemist, but I doubt its what one would term 'common knowledge'. :)

His history is a little more than just alchemy and the search for the
Philosopher's Stone. JKR took a bit of artistic license with his history, so
that it might fit the series.

Wow, a real life guy supposedly living long is mentioned in more than
one literary work. My mind is boggling even as I type.

I'm still in shock. Apparently, even Da Vinci was a real person. And
he was artist! What are the odds?

Rowling didn't just make up the name Nicolas Flamel he was a real
historic Figure, he was an alchemist who spent his life looking,
unsuccessful, for the Philosopher's Stone (not the sorcerer's stone!),
he even had a wife named Perenelle. The exact date of his birth or
death is not known but he published his book in 1414, so he would be
about 656 if he were still around in 1991 for the first Harry Potter
adventure. JKR even got the opera connection right, there is a myth
that Nicolas Flamel was seen at the Paris Opera about 1790. By the way
Michael Myers, the villain of the Halloween movies, was also the name
of a medieval Alchemist.

See I didn't know any of that until I came across his name in DVC. Then I
looked him up through Google. I HATE the Halloween movie!! I love scary
movies but that face gets me.... eek! ;)

It's also the name of my 7th grade history teacher. Meyers is a common
name, So I don't see your point in bringing it up. Unlike the Flamel
connection in Harry Potter, there is no such connection in the
Halloween films.
