So . . . let's cut to the chase, shall we. Is Snape "evil" or "not
evil"?

Most wasn't. One book left to go. Who knows when. Not a Yippie
moment.

Yes, Snape is "evil".
Yes, DD is "dead".
Yes, my two favourite characters have been killed in the last two books.
Yes, I can't help but see Richard Harris when I read about DD.

I'm not at all sure about this. I think Snape might have been
maneuvered into a situation where he was forced to do what he really
didn't want to do. Snape made a mistake.

The theory is actualy simple: Snape gambled that the "unbreakable vow"
would never "come to a head" because Draco historically is so
incompetent that he would never come to a juncture between success and
failure. It's like, you can't actually lose the hand of whist until
you figure out how to shuffle and deal the cards. The Draco of old
would have muddled around making next to no progress at all. Draco's
unforseeable bought with competency placed Snape in a position he
(quite reasonably) never expected to be.

If DD isn't dead I'm going to roast some marshmellows over a half-dozen
lousey books.

Isn't that basically how he joined the DE's originally? He was
pressured by his friends. and judging by that one scene during the
OWLs, he needed all the friends he could keep. He just keeps paying
for the mistake of joining.

None. The ending of HP7 will be "spoiled" before any of us get a hand
on a book. The financial incentives will be just too great - someone
will leak. It will be published on the "Drudge Report".

I think it is inevitable - unless you hide in your basement for two
months prior to UPS delivering the book, you will know the ending even
as you pick up the book.

That was basically the way it was for HP6, wasn't it? I knew DD was
going to die.

I'm afraid this will happen. I particularly don't trust the news in my
country TV. I'm sure that if there's a leak, they will show it in
primetime, in the same way they no longer warn before showing the guts of
some poor soul killed somewhere at lunchtime.

Here I disagree (softly). I knew it too, but I was spoiled in a website I
shouldn't have visited (and I knew beforehand, but couldn't resist). But
the pressure on media for book 7 will be even bigger, and the clues will be
there. For example, with book 6 a bet site had to close the bets on DD
being killed some days prior to release. This was a strong clue (and also
very covered in media), but you could ignore it as a fluke of the market. I
know that if the same happens with book 7, I'm not going to think "woah,
whatever" so easily.

In any case, I plan to unsubscribe from the group and any online news sites
I visit a month prior to release, just as a try. I'm not completely
hopeless that maybe I will get my hands in the book without being spoiled.
Also being in Spain, where the translated release is many months later, may
help, because you can still get the english edition the release day in many
libraries, but the national media is not so focused.

I had no problem with Book 6, which was the only one I read just as it
came out. (Having read Books 1-5 in a gulp not too long after Book 5
came out. I wasn't spoiled for them either.) If I see an article on
Harry Potter, I simply don't read it. So far I haven't had a problem.
I think I did know someone was going to die, but that was it.

I think I may have to emigrate to Spain for a few months next year...
