"USA TODAY
--On Oct. 5-7, Star Trek fans can set their phasers on "spend." To mark
the 40th anniversary of the franchise, CBS Paramount Television for the
first time is auctioning items from its archives. The more than 1,000
lots include costumes, props, sets, weapons and models. "These are real
cultural artifacts," says Cathy Elkies, director of special collections
for Christie's, which will handle the New York auction. Among the
highlights: a replica of Capt. James Kirk's original chair, a miniature
of the Enterprise, and a Romulan Warbird ship."
Man, those devout trekkies are something else. If you wanted an easy
gig, if you were an actor/actress or upper echelon production exec, you
would negotiate a percentage of the merchandizing rights. You could rich
from all the trivial junk and drivel they sell to the ravening hoards of
trekkies with WAY too much money to spend. Though they were not enough
of those "hoards" to save ENTERPRISE.
