The title of the thread is incorrect; should read non anamorphic.

Come on guys, where's the "LUCA$, you screwed the fans again!" And then
then the, "It's his movie, _not_ yours, he can do whatever he wants!"
and then the "Well, we're the ones that made him rich!" and then the
part where everybody starts saying "fanboy".

I'm waiting.

Since I still own several of them on LD, the definitive collection and the
faces set, I'm not gonna bother. And this will be the first time I've never
not bought a release on video in nearly any format GL puts out.

"the 1993 laserdisc masters are the best source material that can be found
for use on DVD after exhaustive searches of the Lucasfilm Archives"

Hah, so we will NOT get the original (1977) theatrical release of Star Wars,
but the 1979 edit that was on the laserdisk and first VHS releases. That
cassette tape I have of the audio of the original is sounding better all the
time.

We burned up all our rage years ago. Star Wars is over. Go troll the
Trekkies, they're inexhaustible. But I think fandom may be over too,
now that there's an easy way to generate a community and letter-writing
base for any shitty show or movie.

Just out of interest, is there a letter writing campaign for a Tank Girl

If George Lucas doesn't have a decent print of the original movie up his
sleeve, isn't it pretty silly to jump up and down and scream because
they have nothing better to work from?

I never expected a DVD set of the original trilogy, pre-SE, to come out,
since that hadn't been available in any format since the SE came out. So
I am quite thrilled that either George Lucas relented, or Fox was able
to go ahead without him. The DVDs will be more convenient to handle than
laserdisc copies, even if they don't offer any other improvement.

Worse- it should read "pan and scan" cos they are. Apparently they're being
considered just a bonus disc to the SE rerelease, so they're just transfers
of the "formatted to fit your TV screen" laserdiscs...

Well, I won't be bothering... My widescreen VHS copies must be *somewhere*
in my dad's attic...

Is it really Pan-and-scan? I hadn't heard that one yet.
This is sounding more and more like a "borrow from a friend and bootleg"
title.

No, they are using the widescreen (non anamorphic) transfers used to make
the 1993
definitive collection on LD.
