| OT The Duh Vini Code [message #268010] |

Technically, Ron Howard makes a great movie. He knows how to direct and
there are some nice touches. However, the lack of a good story is the
problem here. I only made it through the first hundred pages of Angels and
Demons and couldn't take it anymore, so I had no desire to read TDVC. Why
go? Because I was rooting for Ron Howard and Tom Hanks to take a different
angle and make an entertaining movie. Sadly, they smacked some lipstick on
this pig, however, this lipsticked pig is breaking all kinds of box office
records. I think that is because of premise, Catholics, the Vatican, and
Secret Socities.
If you want a history lesson, truth and fiction - you decide, go see TDVC.
Also, I think that if there was anything that might have helped, Tom Hanks
expressing some personality instead of being sort of all knowing might.
I understand there are people that are taking this movie seriously and
believing the premise. Doesn't surprise me. I remember when Star Wars
first came out and people began to worship The Force.
Anyway, half way through the movie, my wife thought about leaving and going
shopping, but she toughed it out. Later, she wished she had.
In closing, if you want to see a technically very good movie, go see TDVC.
If you are merely curious, wait for the DVD.

I was disappointed by the lack of chemistry between Hanks and
Tautou. However, in this they were being true to Brown's book,
because in the book there is no chemistry between these
characters, either.

A minor point that gets me is that certain circles get offended by something
like "The Passion of the Christ" for digging up old hatreds of the Jews or
"Munich" for being too hard on the Israelis (read Jews) while the same
circles tell that the DaVinci code "is just fiction." (and vice versa). I
don't subscribe to any particular side, but I feel if you take a stand, be
consistant.

Good point. The only way to go is freedom of expression. Protect
the right of artists to express themselves in their work, and if
anyone gets offended by it, tough luck.
