Ultimate Edition DVD covers [message #266654] Mi, 10 Mai 2006 18:49

I'm eagerly anticipating the "Ultimate Edition" DVDs, but I'm
unimpressed by the covers for the UK versions at least. I'm in Canada,
and I presume the R1 releases will have similar covers. They seem like
mediocre Photoshop jobs, and some of the actor photos don't even match
the era of the film. There is a younger Moore on FYEO, for instance,
that looks like it belongs on the LALD cover. Sloppy.

If these indeed are the "Ultimate Editions", I wish they'd either
commission some actual artwork or, better still, go with the original
poster art. I hope the transfers, sound, and extras are as good as I'm
anticipating. If they are, then the covers don't ultimately matter.
Still, it's a disappointment they didn't take more care.

I fear we will be once again relying upon the graphic artists among fandom
to provide those of us who believe sleeve art is an integral part of a home
video release with alternative versions.

I'm sure there will be "Ultimate, Ultimate Editions" on either HD-DVD or
Blu Ray depending which wins the format war, or even on both. Quite
happy with versions I've got now, so I'll wait and see what happens with
the hi-def formats.

Still haven't got around to watching the extras on the versions I've got
yet. I keep meaning to find time to watch them all in order and get
through all the extras, but never seem to find the time.

indeed, i read an article a few years ago now saying how they were scanning
the original films for hi def releases in the future, they scanned each
frame at about 2000 pixels wide apparently and expect to have 3 or 4
releases of increasing resolution before they have to rescan them again! i
guess even the hd or blu ray wont be the ultimate ultimate.
