| Last nights episode- question on a reference [message #265937] |

In last night's Simpsons, I thought the people pulling off masks, and not
being the person you thought they were, was a reference to the old Mission
Impossible TV show (and maybe the movies, but who can stand Ton Cruise long
enough to watch one?).
MY QUESTION:
Was the "puzzle piece" fade out to the commercial (or between scenes, can't
remember) also a reference to M:I?
Thanks, Don

Well, the pulling off of masks could also be a Scooby-Doo reference...

"puzzle piece" fade was from the old Get Smart TV Series.

Thanks,
Another person said the same thing, and i think I do remember that. Seems
weird that it was so close to the "masks" things.

The music was wrong for "Get Smart", but the puzzle pieces was "Get
Smart". As for someone else saying this, we discussed this underneat
the cone of silence! So how did you know we were discussing it?

Yeah, the "Get Smart" reference just didn't seem right to me, either. It was
obvious (to me, anyway) that the mask removal and puzzle-piece transition were
all part of a single reference. There's that annoying
bell-in-the-back-of-my-head that's telling me it refers to an older secret
agent/spy television series, but I just can't bring it to front.
