Shouldn't come as a huge surprise but today I noticed that the
progression for a solo section in "Farther Oblivion" before the tango
was also the one on Roxy "Don't you ever wash that thing"

Not quite: the progression in the FO pre-tango solo section is A-G-F-G
while the "Don't You Ever Wash" Roxy progression is Bb-A minor-Ab-G-F#
dim-F-E minor-G.

Similar tempo and feel, though.

Ok then Mr. Smarty Pants,

Would you deny that the subdued riff at the beginning of one of the
guitar jams (maybe the last one) is the predecessor to "Zomby Woof"?

I didn't notice any Zomby refs the last time I listened to the CD, but
I'll keep it in mind next time.

The vocal section of "Rollo" had some riffs later heard in "Zomby Woof"
and "San Berdino," but it's not on the CD.

What about that lick that comes a couple of times at the start of
Montreal? What's that from?

That's the one I was thinking of, though it doesn't repeat. Does have
a vague similarity to one of the riffs from ZW.

At 0:24 and 0:30 in "Montreal" there is the same lick I mentioned which
appeared in "Rollo" (vocal section) and later in "San Berdino."

Right, that's where it comes from. Thanks very much.

Any thoughts as to what Montreal is taken from? Is it a guitar solo from
Rollo then, if it has a lick from the vocal section?

"Chunga's Revenge," maybe.

I don't think so.

The Chunga's head could have been edited off the beginning of Montreal,
but it doesn't sound like anything has been edited off the end. Every
circulating Petit Wazoo performance of Chunga's Revenge ends with a
return to the head.

Also, their first known performance of Chunga's Revenge was not until
11/10/72 Philadelphia.

In particular, note that they didn't play Chunga's Revenge on 10/31/72
Passaic. If you look at the setlists from the other nights where two
shows are in circulation, there's virtually no repetition of songs.
Rollo and Cosmik Debris were played at both 12/2/72 Kansas City shows.
No songs were repeated on 11/11/72 Washington or 12/9/72 Portland.

In the two shows on Halloween, they played every song they are known to
have played before Philadelphia, repeating not only Cosmik Debris but
also Montana, America Drinks, and Farther Oblivion. If Chunga's Revenge
had been in their repertoire, I think they would have played it that
night.

I think Montreal was a free-standing improvisation, like Been To Kansas
City In A Minor and D. C. Boogie--and Six Horns In An Airplane Hangar
and Waiting For The Tenor Sax Blues and Hope That It Turns Out Wonderful
and...

I think I hear an edit between FZ's closing remarks and the horn
exclamation, but your setlist observations make sense and the track
also sounds a bit fast for Chunga's. Probably an improv.

I just found the Montreal review on Charles's site which mentions that
'un morceau de rock 'n' roll' was performed so I guess it must be that.
Strange, because there aren't any freestanding improvs on tape from that
early in the tour.

There were a few improvs on the Grand Wazoo tour, so the PW guys would
have presumably been ready if FZ called for one at the Montreal show.
