We all know about Frank's CC so I was wondering about other bands. The
Beatles summed up all of their CC in one song, Glass Onion, but the
rest of their catalogue was a bunch of individual songs (Experts,
correct me now). Devo had a few references from song to song, at least
on some boots and tapes.
Can anybody list other bands who used some type of CC througout their
song catalogue? (And this does not mean groups like Hootie and the
Blowfish whose entire repetoire sounds like the same crappy song.
Damn, every college kid who worked in our building played that stuff
like it was the best thing on earth. I could not escape)

Great post idea!
Does this include 'musical CC' aswell?
I'd say Yes had a little. 'Relayer' mentioned in 'Topographic Oceans'
then producing 'Relayer'.
Similar theme riffs on 'Relayer' and earlier lps on 'Topo'.
I think I'm drifting more into musicianship vs CC. That is say Patrick
Moraz album 'i' has piano solos same as done on 'Relayer' tour.
Weather Report I'd say had some from their early albums, changing band
members as Zappa did but continuing phrases from previous lps.
'Sweetnighter' funky themes got more spacey on 'Mysterious Traveller'
but Alphonso Johnson keeping it funky and some riffs & breaks continued
to take pieces from previous songs.
Miles definitely had CC. Even album covers from Jack Johnson, Big Fun,
Bitches Brew. Even though most contained the 21min. jamming the bits of
melodies in them would later become 'Jean Pierre' or 'Star People' on
his comeback lps.
Just thinking about it in an instrumental way.
Or maybe I should have 'In a Silent Way'.
Thanks for the great Zappa info ya'll,
Y.W.

Aside from "Glass Onion," the Beatles also had the "She Loves You"
reference in "All You Need Is Love."
Phish did it a few times, particularly in their earlier songs.
Bruce Springsteen mentioned "Thunder Road" in a later song, "The
Promise." He also used the same line in multiple songs a few times, if
that counts as CC.

Todd quotes "Just One Victory", "Think of Me", "It's a Long Road", "I
Saw The Light", "A Dream Goes on Forever" and "Real Man" in Fair
Warning on Initiation.
The squid decor. Excuse me Todd.

I guess then that Tool would be the ultimate in CC, since they
effectively have one song, composed of probably hundreds of
installments by now.
It is a really good song...
