UK HP convention/conference looking for staff [message #264804] Mo, 08 Mai 2006 20:26

Hi there,

I am currently putting a bid together for the 2010 Harry Potter
Education Fanon, Inc. event. HPEF
(http://hpeducationfanon.org) organises an annual academic conference
focused on the Harry Potter books and films for adults. The events
began in 2003 and so far have always been held in North America but
HPEF has expressed an interest in a UK event.

The current HPEF event is Lumos 2006 - http://lumos2006.org which will
take place in Las Vegas this summer with 1200 members.

2010 may seem a way off to start planning but possible venues that
could hold the number of attendees expected are already taking bookings
up to five years in advance and we don't want to miss out and be forced
to compromise on our site.

Our bid will be competing against others and so it's important that we
work hard to develop it in the early stages.

Part of our aim will be to diversify the content of the conference as
in 2010, the books will all have been released and we may well also
have seen the release of the final film that summer. Whilst the main
programme will have an academic Harry Potter focus we also intend to
include more general academic items. Similarly, there will be a 'fan
convention' element of the more informal side but for tax and legal
reasons, this cannot be the main focus.

If you are interested in being involved in the bid (and assuming we
win, in putting on the conference) I'd love to hear from you. You must
be 18 or older on or before December 1st 2007 and some experience in
conferences, events or convention organisation is desired but not 100%
necessary if you feel you have other skills to offer.

We are particularly interested in finding someone with accounting
experience to act as treasurer and an advisor with some familiarity
with UK tax law as it regards non-profit organisations. Available roles
include, but are not limited to, the following:

Head of Formal Programming
Head of Informal Programming
Head of Family and Children's Programming
Secretary
Treasurer (Accounts)

There're other areas such as membership, guest liason, games, art,
publications, marketing and more for which we would also welcome
applications.

Please do be aware that these positions are unpaid and whilst they are
voluntary, the commitment should not be taken lightly. If you are
genuinely interested in being a part of this major event, please email
niuserre [at] gmail.com with a CV and/or description of your
skills/experience, your desired role and/or any questions your might
have.

Regards,
Hayley
