The blackboard gag is a crack at how the plotline for the upcoming
Simpsons film (which comes out next summer) is supposedly top secret
(although Ain't It Cool News got a leak about how it's supposedly
going to be about a dome being built around Springfield).
In the 1970's, the Oakland A's had a dynasty in which they were the
AL West champions for five years straight and the World Series champs
from 1972-1974. Along with Sal Bando and Gene Tenace (who voiced
themselves in this episode), other big names that were among the
Oakland A's during this period include Reggie Jackson and Catfish
Hunter.
