Need a Little Help Interpreting a Quote From Om in "Small Gods" [message #260223] Do, 27 April 2006 05:30
Liszt
Following a discusion between Brutha and Om about establishing Omnia as
a place free of religious persecution (much to Om's objections) and an
economic analogy, Om says:

"Worried? Me? By a Bunch of Primping Women and Muscle-Bound Posers in
Curly Beards?"

The curly beards sound like a reference to Judaism, but the what of the
muscles and primping women?

Probably something obvious but any help would be greatly appreciated =]

It sounds more like the Greek pantheon to me. Zeus, Apollo, Aphrodite . . .
the mal gods were muscular and had curly hair and beards, and the godesses
(especially Aphrodite, but actually *all* of the gods) were very vain.

Some read science fiction, some write science fiction, others ARE science
fiction.

Yep, if Athena and Hera weren't just as vain as Aphrodite, a
lot of people's lives would have been a lot quieter.

I know, it must seem as if I'm too good to be true. Young, cute, smart,
educated, sadistic, and just neurotic enough to be really interesting. [1]

We are all figments of Stacie's imagination? Hmmm....that would explain a
lot, but I don't think even Stacie is twisted enough to dream up this
group...we must be real.

Which is a lot more reliable as proof than Descartes.

Sure - Descartes' argument relied upon a continuous self - break that down,
and the whole argument goes poof, as does his proof for the existence of
God, which he postulates from his famous Cogito statement.
