.......There I wuz...in the local used CD store....holding a copy of The
Monkees Greatest Hits (25 cuts; Rhino records) in my
hand........wondering if I should buy it or not. I HATED the Monkees
when they were out in '66 - '69 & mocked out any teenybopper who liked
them. They were "made up"...not a "real" band. But now 40 years
later..... I'm thinking that their music wuzn't so bad after all
(except the Davy Jones tunes). Always enjoyed "Randy Scouse Git" with
Mickey Dolenz on lead though would never admit it back when.
Well, I didn't buy it 'cause I woulda been too embarrased to take it to
the 20 something chick working the cash register.
Should I go back & buy it or not. Or is it just an attack of
nostalgia?????

Ya know what the very last scene of the very last episode of the
Monkees' TV show was? Tim Buckley, solo with 12-string, singing (well,
lip-synching) "Song to the Siren." Now THAT was fucking hip. And they'd
just had Zappa on the previous episode.

Talk about wasted opportunities!
You could have asked the young lady which Monkee is her favorite.
That would REALLY have made an impression on her.

Nah, I'm afraid that at OG's (and my) age, the only chance of impressing
a 20-year-old comes when she sees how you pay. Hand her an irridium
charge card, or a $1000 bill, and she might notice you.

You can't be nostalgic for something you hated so I guess that means
you
must dig the Monkees. Buy that dude!

"Randy Scout Git" is my favorite Monkees track.

Oh, and buying a Zappa CD would have impressed her? Sheesh.

Your choice. Besides, you don't want my opinion. I have Michael
Bolton's Everybody's Crazy album on vinyl AND CD.
