Famous son Dweezil Zappa’s “Zappa Plays Zappa” tour will hit Toronto
in June, but alas they won’t be bringing their pedigree and poodles to
Buffalo. But Zappa fans in the Queen City can still get a dose of FZ
at the Mother’s Day Frank Zappa Festival at Nietzsche’s on Saturday,
May 13.
Buffalo’s homegrown Zappa tribute, Voice of Cheez, presents the only
annual festival in the United States dedicated to the music of Frank
Zappa. The succulent, girl-group harmonies of the Cheezettes
(Carfagna/Cissoko/Peel) behind Tom Fenton's low-end Winchell's Donut
Midnight vocals lend a truly unique sound to Zappa's classic songs.
Guests artists opening the show are DOOT!, the bass and drum duo of
Pete Brunelli and Stephen Chillemi, whose free improvisational
reworkings of Zappa have won acclaim on the European Zappa scene.
Buffalo’s up and coming outrageous rock alternative, Anal Pudding,
tops off the show with a whipped up set of scatological Zappa.
Saturday, May 13 at Nietzsches, doors open at 8 pm.
