The embrace and kiss in the common room after the Quidditch match
was as sensual as watching two carp in a fish tank fight over the same piece
of corn.
JKR's writing career after HP wont be writing romance novels I can tell you.

You're not a woman, of this much I'm relatively certain. I don't
believe the moment was meant to be sensual in any explicit way - it was
meant to be accidentally emotional, more of a surprise in the midst of
intense celebration than anything else.

If men only understood that this sort of thing is far more effective on
women than showing up at the door with a package containing a feather
duster and a french maid's costume, this world would be a far better
place.

Actually, there are men who do understand this. They tend not to be
single for very long, and their wives have better things to do than to
complain to other women about their husbands. So we don't hear much
about them.

Well, you have me there - I married just such a man as you describe,
and now spend the majority of my time listening to other women complain
about the first sort. :-)

Yep, lol.. it was an appropriate scene for the general reader level,
although we here are adults. Can you imagine the backlash if it had
been something about them grabbing and groping and throwing bits of
clothing all over the common room?? LOL

Who said it was supposed to be sensual? It was two teenagers having their
first kiss, anyone who thinks THAT's gonna be "sensual" has been watching
too much bad porn.

Well, she's admitted to not like writing kissing scene, so I think she'd
agree with you whole heartedly on that.

I felt it a bit rushed to set it all up. They should have been
talking, eyeing each other, a gentle hand on the shoulder, then lip
action.

I agree. As much as I like her writing, I think this part was one of her
weaker moments. I thought it was kind of forced. At the same time, it
wasn't meant to be sensual. It was meant to be spur of the moment.
Honestly, how sensual can you be when you're in a room filled with your
classmates.

One other note, do we really want JKR to become a romance novelist?

Definitely. Imagine:

- Fabio Potter and the Pillar of Hot, Hot Storg=E9
- Fabio Potter and the Half-Blood Concubine

Feel free to add to this list - I'm too sickened to do any more.

I Want a Girl (Just Like the Girl That Married Dear Old Dad) (1911)

A major issue with Harry is living up to his father's standard. HP3 in
particular is full of it.

And HP5 portrays Jame's girl as quite the spitfire. Ginny's got some
spirit - but does she measure up to the Lilly Potter standard? Alas, I
don't quite see it that way.

I just can't see Harry spawning with this fish. Hermieone's the salmon
in this series. I'd jump over a waterfall, that's for sure!

Maybe it wasn't meant to be.

Well it's as well that HBP wasn't one. Within the bounds of the story I
thought that scene and the ensuing relationship was well done, mind you
there are some who don't agree but they were hoping for a quite different
set of events to unfold.

Harry was looked with Snape's by hours, thinking in how Cho and Ginny
were fighting for his l... er... the snitch. Then, as soon as he was
out, he rushed to the Common Room and the first thing he sees is Ginny.
It makes perfect sense to me: we're lucky - lightly - that he actually
didn't jump on her in front of everybody like a cat.
Besides, he's Harry Potter. He's the less romantic guy ever :P Deal with
it.

My personal theory, for which I have no proof whatsoever: The kiss was patterned
after Al and Tipper Gore's kiss at the democrat national convention. That kiss,
like the one Harry and Ginny shared, was set against the backdrop of a noisy
celebration and was something of a surprise for the kissee. Quite a few women,
including JKR I presume, thought the kiss romantic and sexy for some reason and
so she wrote something similar for Harry and Ginny. Personally, I thought Tipper
looked like the cat in a Pepe Le Peu cartoon, but that's beside the point.

And since you watch lots of... oh, it's just too easy! :-)

But to put the rebuttal in more realistic terms, when love becomes
powerful enough, the sensual element ceases to be the primary element.

Definitley not sensual. Just should have been drawn out more. Setting
up what suddenly clicked in them on the spur of the moment. Not just
seeing her then snogging her. Even a friendly hug setting it all off.

But the actual moment should have been more tender and romantic in
retrospect.

LOL. True.

OB Harry/Ginny scene:

I think that the Harry/Ginny kiss scene was the one romantic scene in the book
that was done very well. Ginny ran up to Harry bursting to tell him that she did
it all for him, but of course she couldn't actually say that. In kissing her,
Harry did the best possible thing.
