In GoF, there is a long "song" by the sorting hat. I always read it kind of
fast and missed a rather important bit of info. This may be old news to
some, but I didn't realize that the sorting hat was Godric Gryffindor's. I
know his sword was delivered in the hat, and now it makes more sense.
Horcrux, anyone?

Rowling said the hat is not a horcrux... something like horcrux's don't draw
attention to themselves by singing in front of thousands of people. The
sword could still be one.

Yes but godrick pulled it off his own head and then the founders put some brains
in it. Does that sound squishey to you?
But the hat was godricks and it isn't a horcrux and so far nither is the sword.
At least that is what DD thought in book 6.
