I'm going to visit several cities on my vacation, and I would like it if you
would enjoy trying to guess one of them.
I will give you some clues:
1. In summer the only way you can get there is by sea or airplane.
2. In winter the only way you can get there is by airplane. Well, that's
not 100% true. You could drive there in winter and people do, but it is a
very long and dangerous drive.
3. It's not on an island.

You can't drive to Antarctica, but that was a good guess. Also, I was
looking for the name of the particular municipality.
Clue #4: It's in the northern hemisphere.

Where are you now? It would help of you started there. After all, you say
that "You could drive there in winter", which you can't do if you're going
to Alaska and you live in, say, London...

I suspect that you are using the word "cities" rather loosely. But
what I suspect that you are getting at is the "ice roads" in Canada,
which are passable only after some lakes freeze with a two-foot layer
of ice. So you are going to some destinations in north-western canada.
Hope you don't get sick - it takes months to see a physician in Canada.
But it is free, whether you are still alive or not.

Definitely, but where do you draw the line? Is Australia an
Island? Eurasia+Africa? You could argue that everywhere is
either on an Island or a tad wet.

Well, I goofed. I got the names mixed up, it's actually Barrow, not Nome.
As you probably know, Barrow is about 500 miles farther north and about 400
miles east of Nome. But I think Nome meets all the criteria I gave, so I
will give you credit anyway.

Close, but not quite. Barrow, Alaska.

So I've heard. Have you ever had the experience of going to a Canadian
doctor?
I wonder if the quality of their health care (other than the wait) is as bad
as in the US...
> But it is free, whether you are still alive or not.
No, it's not free. You just don't pay the health care providers directly.
Or voluntarily.

I will take the partial credit, largely because I'm 88% Hermione

plans to make myself entirely correct :-)

Australia is the largest island in the continent of Oceania, Eurasia
and Africa are continents and thus not islands, that is where you draw
the line.

If you define an island as land surrounded by water then yes, all land
masses are islands. However you would be using an incorrect definition.
The word "island" means a land mass (smaller than a continent) that is
surrounded by water.
That's an idea though. If I define the green papers in my pocket as
trillion dollar bills, then I have enough money to pay off the US national
debt.

Or figure out a reason why your answer is more correct than mine. :-)
My next clue was going to be, "We'll be there for over 24 hours, but not for
a full day."
