Hmmm...I know that early in the 20th century the Master of Elibank
was a Liberal MP (he eventually went to the Lords as 1st and last
Lord Murray of Elibank but never succeeded his father in the Elibank
viscounty (now extinct).

years. His colleagues did indeed address him as "Master", as
contemporary memoirs atest.

I can't help but smile when I think of a "Chief Whip" being called "Master".
I'm sure Stacie - and possibly Graham, too - might have a similar reaction.

Mind you, Rumour (which is almost as commanding as Tradition) has it
that many are quite the opposite in their private (or not-so-private,
when got hold of by the Dailies) life.
