....or something like that. As part of one of my fluff subjects... er...
highly valid subjects that teach me transferable skills... I have to run a
survey.

This isn't about dragons, but you might find it interesting. It's about
artificial life, and I'm looking for any volunteers who are 18 or over to
fill it in (the age limit was set in the course, not because it's in any way
mature content). The results are anonymous.

Even if you find it very dull, if anyone could take a little time to fill it
in, I'd be very grateful. As for why I'm asking here, I'm asking anywhere I
know people.

Thanks in advance for anyone that helps out.

Hi Polenth, I think you may have a mistake in question 7. It says:

"If yes, go to question 8. If no or unsure, go to question 10."

Is perhaps it meant to say "...go to question 9." ?

Filled in.

One question, though -- question seven carries the rider "If yes, go to
question 8. If no or unsure, go to question 10." But since question
nine is the start of a new section, I wondered whether you actually
intended to have those answering no to question seven skip both eight
and nine.

You DO realize that unless you develop a program that is capable of
grasping highly abstract concepts and acting under its own power, it's
not really AI but a really highly advanced algorithm that merely MIMICS
thinking, don't you?

The survey is about a-life, not artificial sentience. As you'll see if you
read the introduction, it explains a-life is a mimic, and that it is broader
than just mimicing intelligence (things like movement also count). The
survey also introduces you to some examples in the early questions, to make
it clearer. It's worth keeping clearly in mind that we aren't implying that
furbies are sentient and soon to be our overlords. ;)

Yes, and one that doesn't get any older or more intelligent. Static
algorithms are only capable of the same level of intelligence that they
were programmed with, although they can be improved with more
knowledge. A dynamic algorithm, one similar in application to that of
the brain, would be able to gain intelligence as it had more processing
power, memory, and storage. However, one of these could possibly get
out of control, if it found the largest repository of information in
the world... it could take control of the Internet quite easily.

The link won't work anymore, as the survey has ended and been taken down. I
figured anyone that would have wanted to do it will have done by now... but
if not, it's over now. Thanks to anyone that did fill it in. It's going to
be a big help for finishing that project.

Polenth seems happy with the number of responses she got, so it's all
good.
