I think this may be the only way to get the originals. Bloody
annoying though if you bought the remasters already. The good news is
I may be able to unload a set or two of the VHS OT.

never thought of that, I think have 3 copies on VHS, my original tapes i
got when i was a kid in the 80s, then the faces boxset, which was
advertised as being cleaned up and the last time you'd be able to buy it
in its unaltered form, then the gold remastered boxset.
i supposed they'd all be pointless once i get the dvd's. It also makes
me thing if they cleaned up the film for that last boxset, how bad can
the dvd's really look?

Problem is those are not the original version of at least Star Wars.
There is some tinkering in nearly every release. What they need to do
is get behind a Criteria release of all the Iterations.

Won't be in the same quality though from VHS to DVD.

It should. Film always has a higher resolution than DVD. The only thing I
fear is that they will intentionally make it look 'rough' in order to make
the revised version appear better. Although some may be disappointed when
they see that old technology on DVD. I am still waiting for the deleted
scenes and the making of featurettes.

Wrong as usual Proctor. They won't be transferring from VHS to DVD like
fanboys do, they'll be using the master that was transferred to VHS
back in 95 (the last unaltered master of the OT before the Special
Editions). Of course the picture is going to be better.

VHS and LD are analog media. DVD is digital media.

Plus the VHS boxset that poster stated in gold is full frame, why bother?
And all of the LD are non anamorphic, again, why bother? Difference being
are they planning on viewing them on a 4:3 TV?

Well Lucas would be stupid to do a Laserdisc transfer( I did have them,
really only because it was the only way to get wide-screen at the time)
instead of a film transfer. However, CBS/FOX DID do a direct laserdisc
transfer of the first box set of Bruce's Lee's films. The average person
would not have known, but since I had the LD flicks and a vivid memory, I
knew it was an LD transfer instead of a new DVD version. Not to mention,
they kept the old CBS/FOX logo at the start of the disc. That is the lazy
way out. Like I wrote before, I suspect that the originals will not be as
clean as it could be in order to show why the newer versions are superior to
him.
