movie marathon [message #249506] Di, 02 Mai 2006 01:39

Hello:

I want to make plans to sit down and watch all 6 movies including the 2
"Clone Wars" dvds but there is no way that i will watch them all in one
day.

I'd rather watch them spread out over the course of one month but here
is the catch.

To stick with the "timeline" between each movie how many days should i
wait between each movie from start to finish in a 30 day period?

For example i think i saw somewhere that the events in TESB take place 3
years after ANH.
How would you figure the number of days it would be in between those 2
movies?

I know it may sound stupid to you all out there but it is something i
want to do.

Would any of you really smart folks out there know how to figure this
out or come close?

Thanks in advance!!!!

It's impossible to calculate out excactly since nobody knows how many
days / weeks each movie takes place over. We only know the number of
years between each movie, and that's only roughly (ie. the 3 year gap
between ANH and ESB may in reality be 2 years 8 months or 3 years 2
months).

Try to include the holiday special, if you can.
I'm unsure about the 3 years difference between 3 and 4, but if others
say that's correct, it's probably correct. The entire timeline, IIRC,
goes like this:
Ep1
-10yrs-
Ep2
-3yrs-
Ep3
-19yrs-
Ep4
-3yrs-
Ep5
-1yr-
Ep6

I may be wrong about there being one year between 5 and 6.
In total, that's 36 years. Spread over 30 days, is a little over a year
per day. To make it simple, do 1year=1day, and don't spend so much time
between episodes 3 and 4.

The Clone wars is actually around two hours in total. The specific
timeline can be found here:
http://www.starwars.com/clonewars/explore/timeline/
The chapters in season 1 jump through time a bit, but the first event
(Audition on Rattatak) takes place 0.1 years after Ep2, and the
introduction of General Grievous happens 0.3 years after Ep2. In fact,
the first 4 1/2 minutes of season 2 are just a continuation of the last
chapter of season 1. What all this means is that the day you watch Ep2
(day 10), you should also watch the entire first season of the Clone Wars.

The rest of chapter 21 happens around 6 months to a year before Ep3.
Chapters 22 and on, lead right up to Ep3, so you should probably watch
them the same day as Ep3.

If you're going to include the holiday special, you should probably
watch that the day after Ep4.

Nope, that timeline is 100% correct according to the one in the front
of the latest paperback novels. :-)

I did the six films in one day recently. What's more, I did it with my
three boys (ages nine, five and two). The oldest wanted to add the Clone
Wars cartoon into the mix, but we simply wouldn't have had time. Gotta take
breaks between each movie when you're dealing with kids. We started at 9am
and got done at about 1am. I didn't think the two little ones would make
it, but they were good through the whole thing. They would get up and stray
from the television, but never really got wild like they normally do. It
was a very pleasant experience and one that I hope will become an annual
tradition.

The one day marathon is the best, though it can be very difficult finding
the time to sit in front of the TV all day. I did it with 5 movies when AOTC
was in cinema, watching ANH though to TPM on video then going to the cinema
to see AOTC. Last Christmas Eve I watched all six together for the first
time. I got up and strayed a couple of times like your kids but mostly I was
glued to the spot. : )

I don't think I could do it any more than once a year. It is quite
draining. If I ever get the chance to have a marathon without the younger
kids, I'd like to add the Clone Wars into the mix and possibly the live
action television series if that ever gets off the ground. Imagine that,
13.5 hours of movies, 2 hours of cartoon and 100 episodes (about 75 hours)
of TV show. Assuming seven hours of sleep each night and minimal
food/bathroom breaks, you would still need to set aside five straight days.
Could any of us manage that feat, do you think?

I'm not sure if that "2 hours" includes the up-coming animated Clone
Wars show, but you can also add the Droids and Ewoks cartoons and the
Ewoks movies in there too.

Throw in a few good fan-made movies and you've got a full week. :-)

I forgot about the new cartoon! I'd personally not add the Droids/Ewoks
cartoons or the Ewok movies because I do not fell that they have a
definitive timeline consistent with the rest of The Saga. However, if you
choose to add all of the above (and don't forget the Holiday Special), then
you've just added another full day.

One thing's sure. All this talk has got me wanting to do one sooner,
rather than later. :-)

The real problem is that you can't get all the Droids and Ewoks
animated episodes on DVD ... only a silly "best of" set. :-(

EVERYONE is meant to forget about the horrendous Holidy unSpecial.

I could. : ) It's not nearly in the same league as 90 hours of Star Wars but
I took a week off work and saw ROTS 17 times. I'd be willing to go the
distance on the entire saga one day.
