| Ian McDiarmid in Elizabeth I [message #249490] |

I finally got around to watching HBO's "Elizabeth I" starring Helen
Mirren in the title role. What a pleasant surprise to see our own
Darth Sidious, Ian McDiarmid, in a large role as a trusted advisor,
Lord Burleigh.
In a couple of scenes he almost sounded like a mixture of Palpatine
and Sidious. His voice got low and gruff, and it made me wonder why
Lucas chose to modify his voice in the battle with Mace and Anakin's
conversion. It wasn't necessary at all.

It's nice to see him getting other work after Star Wars. Palpatine is
the role he'll always be famous for, but I'm sure he doesn't want it
to define him.

He has always gotten a lot of work. It's just not on film. He does most
of his work in theatre, where he directs.
