OSS117 pre-dates Bond both in book and film. The books (there are over a
hundred) began in the 40's and the first film to be based on Jean Bruce's
hero was made in 1957.
This new film would appear to be a spoof of the thoroughly enjoyable
films produced by Andre Hunnebelle in the 1960's at the height of
the Bond craze, with Jean Dujardin attempting to look like Frederick
Stafford (my favourite actor to have played the part).
Terence Young actually wrote the screenplay for one of these films
and nearly-Bond John Gavin played OSS117 in one of the Hunnebelle
pictures, NO ROSES FOR OSS117 (aka MURDER FOR SALE) before
being linked with DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER.
