Hello,I'm new here :o) [message #247798] Sa, 15 April 2006 17:05

Ok,I just wanted to say Hi to everybody and
introduce myself.
I am 32 years old, female and from Germany.
I've read all the books several times and
I've seen all the movies several times (but
that's just because my daughter has a crush
on Daniel Radcliffe, hehe).
I've been reading here for quite a while
but until now didn't dare to participate in the discussions
because my written English is pretty rusty since
I finished school 13 years ago.

And for the record:
Yes, Dumbledore is dead.
I believe Snape is not on Dumbledores side
and I hope,Harry is not a Horcrux

Wotcher, Aenneken!
Always nice to see a fresh face, um, poster!

Your English is superb, no worries there.

I agree, Dumbly-dore is dead, Snape I'm not so sure about, and if JKR says
Harry is not a horcrux, then I won't argue with the creator of Harry Potter!

Tell us some of your other thoughts.
There are some around who will get upset if you mention something that's
been mentioned before, but since the last book came out over a year ago,
it's hard to broach a subject that has *not* been talked about, so don't
worry about those that reply with negative attitudes, it's their problem,
not yours.

Please don't be shy, if you have an opinion about an ongoing subject, join
in! Maybe you have the fresh perspective we've been waiting for!

Rob (35, M, USA)

Hi!

23, female, Peru.

Good. We won't have silly questions, then ;)

LOL, we understand.

Don't worry: many of us don't have English as main language either. In
fact, I think I learned more here than in any other school :)

I LOVE YOU!!!!
Here is some of the finest Firewhisky Troels left before he was gone.

You have no idea how much Harry Potter/Daniel Radcliffe stuff

Ok, I am less worried now. ;o)

Yes, it's sad that he left.It was actually him who nearly
convinced me that Snape is not on Dumbledores side,he got me
into rereading parts of the books again and looking for answeres
or clues.
But I guess I wouldn't like Firewhisky anyways, I prefer wine.so
it's fine with me that it seems he didn't leave any. :o)

Hi and also Guten Tag. (40, male, from USA)

We'll know when he becomes the new front man for the Hobgoblins. Sadly,
he will retire after being bit in the ear by a garden gnome thrown by a
member of the audience at a concert in Little Snoring.

"Harry Potter: Voldemort's Horcrux, or Innocent Singing Sensation?"

Harry will be replaced by the Sorting Hat (it's really branching out
now). Meanwhile, Fawkes will join the band on drums. They'll change
their name to Lumbar Puncture (with "rock dots" over the m and n) and
acquire some big, impressive sets to perfom on, but someone will use
shrinking charms on the sets.

As a musician, Harry will be remembered for a tune called "Polish My
Love Wand".

Well, the English above was impeccable, so don't worry about it!

Hi Aenneken!

Herzlich Willkommen in der Gruppe. Dein Englisch ist mehr als ausreichend
für diese Bande.

Having been away for a few days, Aaron's postings to you have left me in
stitches. But don't listen to him. He's just a dirty old man.

My favorite great-aunt, Tante Aenne, was born in Duisburg and spent more
than half of her almost 100 years in Holland. ...un's Tante Aenneken. Do
you have a Dutch connection as well? Most of the people in this group
cannot differentiate between Dutch and Deutsch anyway. LOL, they probably
even believe radio songs that sing about the "Dutch Mountains"! You may
already know that the highest one is the Drachenfels that I see every day
(filled with busloads of Dutch tourists).

Your daughter has better taste than mine. Her crush is on 50 Cent.

I have a question for you. Why did Klaus Fritz, the German translator,
when he was translating the Prophecy, use the words "sich Ebenbürtigen",
for "equal", instead of the more natural "seines Gleichen"? This choice of
wording is, quite prophetic in that it anticipates JKR's later
explanataion of why LV *chose* Harry rather than Neville.

The ultimate question to the group being whether JKR gave her translators
guidelines with regards to the Prophecy as many have speculated that she
did with regards to the identity of RAB?

I hope that you clearly understand that the only reason I am communicating
with you is your daughter's "Daniel-Rupert-Emma autograph". Are you
absolutely sure that it is authentic??? You should know that the great art
of forgery began with autographs. I happen to have a real one from
Heinrich Ziller.

Nope, sorry. No Dutch connection as far as I know. Aenneken is my
old nickname from school. My real name is Anja and at some point
they started to call me Aenne or Aenneken. But I live in Essen so
there might be some influence from the Dutch language.

Lol

Good question. My dictionary lists both "Ebenbürtig" and
"seinesgleichen" as a translation of equal. But "Ebenbürtig"
means equal in status and ability while "seinesgleichen" means
only equal in status. And "seinesgleichen" can be kind of
"abwertend", sorry i don't know the proper word here.
So i think "Ebenbürtig" is the right choice since Voldemort
"chose, not the pureblood but the half-blood,like
himself"(equal in status)."He saw himself in you before he had
ever seen you"(equal in ability).

I don't think so.But it would be interesting to know how other
languages translated the prophecy.

Well, I hope you clearly understand that the only reason I am
communicating with you is that I want to know who Heinrich
Ziller is.Google didn't help much. ;o)
No I'm not absolutely sure that it is authentic..Hehe.I bought
it as authentic, it came with a certificate but i don't know if
that means anything. But if it is fake it's a good fake. And as
long as my daughter knows it could be fake and still loves it
everything is fine with me.

Yes! I am SO smart!

By the way, my daughter loves Barney, Laurie Berkner (me too, actually.
Is it wrong for me to notice the nice bazoongas on a singer of
children's songs?), and me, so I guess I've got you both beat! =)

Hi Aenneken!

I'm always glad to have a new POV on issues here. I am a 28 year old
female from the USA. I've read all the books several times and seen all
the movies many times as well. My nephew has a huge crush on Emma
Watson (and I confess I'm enchanted by Jason Isaacs). He will be
turning 8 next month and is an avid collector of everything Harry
Potter, so I know exactly what you mean about your daughter's room
being full of HP-related items.

BTW, your English seems quite good. There is no need to be
self-conscious about it; everyone makes mistakes at times.

IMO, DD is dead; Snape is not on DD's/the Order's side; and that Harry
is not a Horcrux. It will be interesting to finally find out what
Snape's true motives are.
