I was thinking about Malfoy's comment about Hermione's hair:
"Keep that big bushy head down, Granger,"

I think I read that witch's hair is supposedly thin. It would make sense
then that Malfoy would tease Hermione for having thick, bushy hair.

I wonder what other attributes are commonly ascribed to witches...

Me neither. Actually, what I've hear is that witches never comb their
hair. Although in an old costumes magazine read that witches are quite
careful with their looks. But I think the first is the more common cliché..

I've always heard 'scraggly' used in reference to witch's hair...

I think the problem here lies with the stereotypical notion that
developed in the middle ages when the witches people became scared of
were old women who had learned the craft of healer over a lifetime.

Older woman, as with older men, tend to lose hair after menopause so
their hair would appear thin and wispy... the stereotype has persisted
to the modern day.
