Mac Tonight was a character created by McDonald's in the 1980's to
help promote the restaurant's late night hours. Dressed in a tuxedo,
Mac Tonight was a crescent moon-headed character who would usually sing
a jingle that's set to the song "Mack the Knife". While the
character was originally created for adults, McDonald's did release
Happy Meal toys feturing this character in 1988.
Steve Ditko is a comic book artist who, with Stan Lee, co-created the
hugely successful comic book superhero Spiderman.
Two more hints of Smithers being gay:
1. Mr. Burns arranged a marriage between him and a fat Indian woman;
2. Smithers want to join the Bollywood spoof at the end of the episode.

I missed the first few minutes of the show, and came in at the end of this
scene. What was up with the crudely-drawn telephone on the wall in that
scene?
