.....Went in to work today still kinda bummed out about Mr. Pitney's
passing & wuz shocked to find out that most of my co-workers had no
idea who he wuz!!! Only a few old geezers like myself knew of his
music.
Ahhhh, these young whippersnappers, what do they know? They admire the
musical prowress of the likes of Eminem or (shudder) Kurt Cocaine!
......sigh.
Gene Pitney wuz a VOICE! Like Roy Orbison, Frankie Valli & Bobby Vee.
He wuz one of the few shining lights in the dark days between payola &
Beatlemania/British Invasion!
But two things scare me about all this. One is the ignorance of
history (musical & otherwise) by younger generations (35 & under).
The other is that little by little, piece by piece the world that I
know is rapidly dissapearing.
Am I to eventually become like Abe Simpson, locked away in some
government controlled "Assisted Living" home......babeling(?) on & on
about some madmen named Jerry Garcia & Frank Zappa????
We won't forget you Gene! Your music rules!!!!
