I covered this before, but with many new posters, I thought it'd be fun
to go over again. What are some Patroni (Patronuses?) you would not want
to have?
Sloth Patronus - Too slow to do anything. Dementors would have a field
day with your soul before it even came near enough to help.
Fish Patronus - Useless unless you are attacked in water.
Any Invertebrate Patronus - It has no backbone! It would squirm from the
Dementors!
Any Bug Patronus - A swarm might be useful, but not one. That would just
be annoying.
Platypus Patronus - Funny, but really what good is it?
Nippy Poodle Dog Patronus - This one might be very effective, but I just
hate poodles. Same goes with Chihuahuas.
On the flipside, a Dragon Patronus would be totally COOL!

A black panther patronus. I would be so cool to see it maul the
dementors, and the slink around my legs, purring.

A cockroach patronus would be the worst I'm guessing.

Are we talking about offense or defense? I quite vividly recall the odor
produced by a car hitting a skunk miles away. Would that be a desirable or
undesirable Patronus?

Ok there are a few I could think of.... A Chicken Patronus...lol ok My
Favorite... A Poison Dart Frog!! W00T I'm so there! They may be small but
can bring down an animal the size of a bear! Imagine what it would do to a
dementor! ;)

How about a snail one--slow AND small enough to squish.
Oh! A slug!

They could ink all over them... ^_^

I'd pick a tiger. Just cuz I like 'em. I also like killer whales, but you
have the whole, "being out of water" problem.
Though, with patroni, would that matter? Could they "swim" through the
air? And since they're not real animals, it's not like they need to
"breathe".

That'd be cool. Could a Patronus fire some type of projectile at a
Dementor if that ability was natural to the creature?

A tiger would be cool. Or a giant grizzly bear.
A whale or a shark might be cool if they could 'swim' through the air.
But what about a guppy or a starfish. I don't think that'd be very
frightening.

A Duck Patronus? If I were a dementor I'd laugh at it.

Apparently also Jo now, so, don't expect any Chihuahuas Patronus in her
next book.

MMmm... Tonk's patronus is cool, I like wolves. But I also like foxes,
so, I suppose a Fox patronus might fit me.

Do the Dementors feel any fear? I think is the power of the Patronus and
its energy what makes is go away. A swan is not scary, neither a Jack
Russell, but I don't think Ron will die if he fights a Dementor and he
casts his Patronus.

I'm not a big fan of bears, though. I prefer felines. A cheetah patronus
would also be cool. And a liger, which is the biggest of the big cats.
It's a lion-tiger hybrid, with a lion father and tiger mother, and grows to
be larger than both of those species.

A starfish could attach itself to the dementor's face, covering their
mouths so they can't suck out your soul...

How about a patronus that took the shape of a Dementor? You'd want to make
sure to keep track of which was the dementor and which was the patronus.

I don't know, despite being filthy and disgusting, cockroaches do have the
reputation of being quite resilient. It could be useful against a dementor.

Mime - Even your closest friends will turn on you for summoning one of
these.
Lemur - Fearless and resourceful; Lemurs make great allies.
Unfortunately they are easily distracted by Twinkies, ceiling fans and
Burl Ives albums. Also, their long standing feud with the cows makes
them somewhat unreliable if you happen to find yourself attacked by
dementors near a dairy farm.
Woodchuck - Useless against dementors and may make you a target
for powerful blasts of energy emanating from Indiana.

My guess would be yes.
And as the Patronus is made up of good feeling and hope you would be either
slimeing it with the same sort of feelings or enbedding a spike or poisen in to
it. wounder if it would get a rash? Most likely it would dive into the nearest
stagnate pond to get free of it.

Then is the tigon the cross the other way around? and do you know how big the
tigon gets?
is the liger normly infertal like the tigon? well other then that one witch

Boys and their obsession with size... just kidding.
Anyway, you just made me check HBP. Tonk's patronus - a wolf, we all
know that - and is not exactly a big animal, whatsoever, the description
of the book is an 'immense four legged creature' and the chapter
illustration show it really big: bigger than her, actually. Ok, perhaps
the first might be more accurate than the illustration.
Now, Ron's patronus is a small cute dog (jack Russell?). Why this
wouldn't be powerful enough? My favourite animal, the one I feel more
identified with is a fox, and foxes are quite little things. But fox to
me represent strength, cleverness, care and peace: those are quite
powerful feelings, so I assume I would have a super sized fox full with
positive thoughts. I assume that if I saw a big dragon I'd run for my
life and I wouldn't feel protected enough.
Now, what about an Entomologist who is really fond of bugs enough to
feel her/himself represented by one of them? A supper maggot might be
scary too.

A ferengi. Or is that the wrong universe? OTOH, a tribble Patronus
would be too much fun. I'd be laughing at the poor Dementors before I
even summoned it. Cackling fiendishly.
Back to the real world, a ceratioid anglerfish would be a really lousy
Patronus. Considering that the word "Patronus" implies that it would be
male.

He's active in tolkein's group.

What about if it wasn't natural but was a traditional
magical talent that used to be believed in? The old
medieval bestiaries said that the porcupine could
shoot its quills from a distance; maybe a Patronus
Porcupine could do that.
If not, then at least a Patronus Spitting Cobra ought
to be able to spit venom. It's the same as a Patronus
Stag being able to use its horns against Dementors.

You'd only need one. Starfish can regenerate even when torn into pieces.
A patronus starfish might be able to split itself into several starfish.
