I was just on the HP Lexicon site and saw that the release date for
OOTP has been confirmed as July 13, 2007.

If Rowling finishes the book on time, that's roughly the same time book
7 would be published. Would WB be stupid enough to open the film
within a month or two of the 7th, and arguably, the most anticipated
book ever?

There is no way that book is going to be out in just over a year from
now. She is not on any kind of dealine, so there is no *on time* for
that. And also, last interview I saw about the movie was that they were
looking at next fall, not summer, for a release. There is still much
filming to be done along with all the editing and such. I would trust
nothing but info coming straight from Warner Brothers when it comes to
the movie.

You're wrong. While things can and do change, JKR has stated that she
plans on finishing the book THIS year. In multiple interviews, she has
said her writing is going extremely well. At this point, we have no
reason to believe that she won't finish the book this year. (FYI, book
6 came out two years after OoTP was published, so it's not impossible).
WB wants a summer release, filming will wrap at the end of the year,
so the film will be ready by summer.

Where has it been officially stated that book seven will be released on
July seventh of next year?
The only evidence I see is a couple posts from August of last year, and the
usual amount of web sites reporting it as fact without checking.

I wonder if they are aiming to have the film and the book hit the
market reasonably close together.
IF the film opens Friday in the US and the book becomes available at
midnight on Friday I could see some weird combination deals. Buy a
ticket and the book at a special showing that ends at midnight where
they hand out the book on the way out. It would take a theatre doing
a deal with a local Bookstore but that sure isn't impossible or all
that hard.

HP is a fall/winter movie, it just doesn't work well in the Summer - as
Prisoner of Azkaban proved. So it'd be incredibly stupid for them try and
put OOTP out in July.

That could be done. Not far from where I live there are a couple of
malls, one of which has a Barnes & Noble and the other has a multiplex.
They're probably not more than 1/2 mile apart, probably less.
