How did the Enterprise escape from the Tholian Web? I only ask as Anne
McCaffery has a reference to it in one of her books but nobody knows the
answer. and as my brain has been fried I can't help the wife out with
an answer

At the last minute, Spock orders full power against the web and the U.S.S.
Enterprise is thrown outside the Tholian's trap, several parsecs from their
former position.

I think the technobabble falls apart a bit in that episode. Not only is it a
very odd weapon (how often do the Tholians face an enemy polite enough to
stay perfectly still for many hours while they weave their unnecessarily
complex weapon around them?), every time I watch it it irritates the hell
out of me that Spock just sits there staring at Kirk on the screen for no
apparent reason instead of beaming him aboard. He doesn't seem to be waiting
for anything specific, he just delays it apparently to increase the tension
for the viewer, but for me at least it's just annoying. It isn't even clear
why they need the full power against the web; until it's complete they could
presumably just casually drive out of there at any speed they like once the
engines are working.
And McCoy's written as a complete dickhead as well.

They moved through another dimension afaik (space in that area was breaking
up). The one the Defiant was seeping into.

It is called 'interspace' and is that part of the multiverse where several
universes overlap.

And it was supposed to be how Transwarp drive worked too (but they may
have dropped that idea.) That was mentioned in Mr. Scott's Guide to the
Enterprise.

Yeah, I remember, but that book wasn't canon, so there was nothing to drop.
Pity.
