Way off-top rant [message #245112] Do, 06 April 2006 23:07

I just read the Will Smith will be starring in the big screen movie - It
Takes a Thief. Now, I think Mr. Smith is a wonderful actor, my wife and I
loved Hitch, Men in Black, Ali, and so on. But, it was a strange thing, he
was the big name in Wild Wild West and he was the problem with Wild Wild
West. James West had a coolness to him, not a hip-hop to him.

My fear is the same for It Takes a Thief. Robert Wagner was by far so cool
and suave as Mundy. Don't need hip-hop again like I, Robot.

You want to talk cool, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Aaron Eckart,
even, wouldn't surprise me as an Alexander Mundy. Looks like The Powers
That Be are just after that big name draw again. Put the king of summer in
here and we will make lots of money. Never mind us fans and what we think.

Back to the Wild Wild West, Robert Conrad was displeased with the producers
choice for Jim West and didn't cameo the moview. Wonder what Robert Wagner
thinks?

I also like Will alot. We've seen him play plenty of non hip hop roles
and do them really well. Who goes to the action flicks? Young black males
make up a huge part of the audience. You cast to your demographic.

I know Glassman, I know. Wow, what would you think of a newly cast version
of TOS with Will Smith as Captain Kirk? Some things are just wrong.

Will Smith will never be Sidney Poitier.

It's the same problem when you see a Ghetto Jesus on velvet: Ghetto
Blacks making monkey faces while wearing their Master's Robes ain't
entertainment unless you have a bag of peanuts to throw. They
sometimes get choked and bug their eyes screaming, "Mr. Benny!"
