| GE Bond Girl Izabella Scorupco in "Reign of Fire" [message #245019] |

Recently rented "Reign of Fire" starring Christian Bale and Matthew
McConnaughey and featuring GE Bond Girl Izabella Scorupco as a
supporting player. Not a great movie, but entertaining to a point.
I had wondered what had happened to Izabella; I hadn't heard of her at
all since GE, unlike Famke Janssen, who's been in countless
high-profile movies (most significantly the X-Men trilogy) and on TV
(Nip/Tuck). Too bad, IMHO Scorupco was the most beautiful of all
the Brosnan Bond Girls. Pierce was very lucky to make his Bond debut
with her by his side. :)
She looked and sounded very different in Reign of Fire than in GE, with
blond hair, an attempted American accent (didn't work too well) and all
dirtied up, playing a female soldier.
It's probably too late for her, at 35, to become an A-list actress at
this point, but then again, Naomi Watts was a late bloomer (she was 34
when "The Ring" premiered) so who knows.

Yeah, the first 20 minutes with the unintelligible British people is
cool. Then the stupid Americans show up and ruin everything: "Gee, can
the cowardly British people and the annoying Americans work TOGETHER to
stop the dragons?" I mean, *seriously.* I've seen commericals with
more plot.

You know Roger Moore's dictum? 'You're not a star until they can spell
your name in Karachi' (or Vladivostok, depending on which source you
read)? I can't help thinking this might have been part of Izabella's
problem. She's the only Bond girl the spelling of whose surname I
always have to double-check...

She features quite prominently (replacing the original actress from
Schrader's version) in EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING.
It's utter TOILET.

And like Roger Moore, she appeared in Alias.

And you'll find she's a lead role in Vertical Limit. Was that what it
was called? That thing with the guy who played Robin in the Batman
films. Big mountain. Lotsa snow. etc.

And also directed by Martin Campbell.

I met her and she was very friendly and she is one of the most attractive
women. The amazing thing is that in person she is so much more attractive
than in any of her films. In the films that I've seen, it almost seems like
they try to make her look a lot less attractive than she really is. Reign of
Fire is a good example of that.

When I met her at the GoldenEye premier in New York, I asked her about
her hopes for the future as an actress. Her response seemed a little
indignant; she was, at the time, actually the lead signer for a rock
band in Sweden or some such (I've forgotten where she's from) and had
every intention of resuming touring once the hype over GE had died
down.
I don't think she had any real aspirations of a theatrical career then
and likely doesn't now.

Decided to check Vertical Limit out after that post. Pretty exciting
movie, better than I thought it would be. Izabella does a nice job
with what she had, though her accent was nowhere near a French accent,
from what I could tell. Most of the scenes were really shot on the
mountain, with very little studio/bluescreen stuff, according to the
commentaries.
Oh, Martin Campbell mentioned that Izabella had gotten married and had
a baby shortly after GE, which was why she hadn't been seen much after
the Bond movie.
For the record, the actor's name (who, yes, was also Robin in a couple
Batman films) is Chris O' Donnell.

Chris O' Donnell. Yes, that's him.
Whatever happened to him? He did a decent John Grisham film, accepted
the mega-Batman role, Vertical Limit, and then somewhat vanished....
VL was OK, IIRC, but fairly predictable. I'm starting to think that
Martin Campbell is a very 'paint by numbers' director.
However, having said that, GE is still my fave Brosnan.....

You can catch Chris O'Donnell as hunky vet, Dr. Finn Dandridge, on
ABC's wildly popular "Grey's Anatomy"...and...Chris' latest movie, "The
Sisters," premiered in Los Angeles and New York this weekend.
