While watching both "original" and "special editions" of ROTJ there is a
small little quirk that sorta bugs me.
In the "original" while Luke is standing before Jabba he quickly looks
down at Leia in her "slave" outfit but in the "special edition" it's
almost cut out.
Did anyone notice this?
Is there a simple explanation?
Everytime i watch that scene i immediately look to see him (Luke) stare
at Leia and wonder what is going through his mind.
I mean if it were me i'd rather be looking at Leia in the hot outfit
than looking at Jabba the "Ugly" Hutt wouldn't ya?
Also on the sail barge when Luke grabs Leia to swing on the rope he
quickly stares down at Leia's chest.
That scene is untouched in both versions.
Any thoughts????

They had to cut it out in the special edition because if Luke stared at Leia
in that outfit too much his lightsaber may ignite prematurely.

Well, this was before he knew she was his sister so hey. Of course being a
Jedi his mind should probably have been on more pure things.

I don't buy this. Jedi are people too. Luke's father was a Jedi and
he had a hot wife and that didn't cause any trouble.
If Jedi are trained when they are young, not allowed romance and force
sensitivity is inherited... where do the new Jedi come from?

Yeah that really turned out great. It only indirectly resulted in a
universal fascist dictatorship and almost the entire extinction of the Jedi
order.

Well, the real answer is George Lucas is edit happy. An in story answer
could be that Luke is more focused at the moment with keeping his eyes
on his surroundings which are decidedly hostile.

I think there have been some EU stories that cover that. Basically, the
Jedi find force sensetive infants and recruit them (some would
uncharitably say abduct) where they train at the Jedi temple for about
a decade before being selected as a padawan apprentice to a Jedi.
As for inheritence. Not every force sensetive individual becomes a Jedi
(I don't think it's possible for the Jedi to find and recruit every
such individual in the galaxy even if they wanted to, it's not like
they have a Cerebro). Not every force sensetive individual has
sufficient force sensetivity to be a Jedi. AND even when the Jedi find
a sufficiently force sensetive child, the parents can still say "no" to
the recruitment.

I never thought of that before. Say two incredibly powerful Jedi were to
fall in love. The Jedi code would keep them from having children. Could
this be to keep from creating a (possibly) ultra-powerful force-capable
child?

That was pretty evident.

You don't need 2 people to have an ultra-powerful force-capable child.

Yah, you just need one ultra-powerful force-capable child and clone the

No, you need a powerful Sith with the ability to create life and a
slutty backwater slave-girl.

What I'd like to know is how the Jedi are able to muzzle such a natural
instinct. I'd think there'd be all sorts of young teens-20's Jedi leaving
to get married. I know there are priests and monks who all stay celibate
but since the Jedi are taken as children, they don't really make the choice.
I suppose castration would be a logical answer, but it doesn't seem like
this is the case. After all, Anakin definitely wasn't castrated. So
somehow the Jedi must repress these natural urges. Also, what about the
Clone Troopers? Are they allowed to marry? The Star Wars universe seems
full of sexually repressed males.

They mediate. They learn how to listen to their minds. It's not an
impossible task, and as Jedi have been raised in that kind of
environment, tarined to the task, imbuded with a sense of purpose, and
taught skills that no normal sentient could hope to master, I imagine
that there is a strong sense of commitment within the order.

So do they wank off? And what's with Anakin? Did he not meditate and wank
off enough? Also shouldn't Obi-Wan have chewed Anakin out when he kept
gawking over Padme?

I'm sure some of them do.

Anakin is an experiment, a Frankenstein monster created by Plagueis
and/or Sidious. He came to the order late. His behavior should not be
taken for "normal."

He did in fact remind him to be mindful of his thoughts and of his oath
to the Jedi order.

That is hilarious. I don't think he's looking at her chest rather than where
to fire his wire thing-a-majig (that Batman device), but you may be right
anyway. The actor Mark Hammil may be looking at Carrie Fisher's chest and
couldn't help himself.

At least he didn't grab it, like Ford did later in the movie.
