Shatner got a complimentary mention in the recent WIRED magazine, and
there is a ~very nice~ full article about him in the latest AARP
member's magazine.
Of course his role as Star Trek's immortal Captain Kirk is mentioned or
alluded to, both times. You can't talk about Shatner for more than one
paragraph without Star Trek and/or Captain Kirk being mentioned. People
still think of him as, and call him, "the Captain".

He'll be everybody's Captain for a long, long time. Kirk (as played by
Bill) is completely indelible.

^_^ Well said. When you think about it Shatner's Kirk is pretty much the
reason we are all here - what? almost 40 years later?
If Shatner played Kirk poorly would we have been as loyal? For so long?
Shatner's Kirk was interesting and helped carry a great show, along with
other great actors. An important piece of the puzzle as he was the most
visible and up front - and helped make a social icon.

You know, I loved "Dark Shadows" as a kid, and the acting was ATROCIOUS
(and that was on a good day!) and from what I understand, there are
still loyal devotees to that series, so I suspect that yes, we would
still...be....loyal...to....the....Captain....! ;-)

We'd be doing well here if we all weren't exposed to the deadly, contagious
DoubleB Virus, Type 1. Killed everything it came in contact with, dead.
Better than Raid(tm)! ^_^
Now there's rumors of allowing this to spread to a Type II level! The
horrors it will bring...

Bill has shown himself to be a terrific light comedic actor. The days of

He took control of the poking-fun. Now when ppl poke fun at him it only
makes him more powerful. :)

And I am sure there are quite a number of actors who would like to have
"poor laughable" Bill's career history... :) (Robert Vaughn, et al, hello?)

We're not talkin about actors. It's the general public that thinks he's a

Everybody *wants* to discount Shatner yet year after year, project after
project, he sticks around don't he? (The original) CSI had the worst actors
known to mankind and yet it's Shatner who gets no respect?? So he's
working, and seemingly working well - not too bad for a "buffoon".
I think the significant problem is that all too many people just don't get
Bill's sense of humor. He pokes fun at everything - even himself. And it
seems to go right over people's heads; Shatner takes almost nothing
seriously (why take things "seriously" anyway? It's life, it'll happen,
deal with it).

Only the majority of the general public, who confuse the comedians
'doing' Shatner with The Captain himself.
Forgetting Trek for a moment, *no one* who saw him in "The
Andersonville Trial" could even remotely dismiss him as a ham. So he
has a sense of humor- in what way is that not infinitely better than
not having one? Remember what the Minbari said about how humor is an
essential part of any intelligent mind? I'd bet Shatner himself would
laugh his ass off at the "William Shatner Do-It-At-Home Kit" segment at
the beginning of the MST3K version of "Star Trek 5."

Old Bill continues to get better with age. Nice article on him in the
latest issue of AARP magazine. (their McCartney cover is perhaps the most
unflattering pic I have ever seen on a mag cover). Bills only flaw, if you
can call it that, is his fear of death. He has such passion for life, that
he can't imagine not being able to keep doing stuff.

I heard that Shatner still considers Adam West to be the only real Batman.
