Ok, I was sitting here scrolling through the group and ended up
thinking(yes, I am capable of that ;)) Anyway what will we all do after the
series ends? It seems kind of sad that we won't have our theories and
speculations. This prompted me to wonder will JKR start another series?
(This may have been covered but I don't remember). It will be sad to see
this group dissolve.. or will this group live on like Star Wars, The
Chronicles of Narnia etc.? Ok what do you guys think? How many of you will
stick around after the last book? Just curious.

JKR has said in a recent interview that she has an idea for a new
series but it will be for younger children than harry potter so i don't
know how many of us will be interested by it.

lol, maybe we will all start reading fanfics and chatting endlessly
about the merits of a particular fanfic and how well it sticks to canon
(ugh, how tragic would that be?!)

i think i will probably stay around long enough to gather the group's
reaction to the conclusion of the series but i can't imagine that my
interest will be held for long after all the questions have been
answered.

Well, we can argue over the last couple movies... debate the _Hogwarts
Encyclopedia_ if Rowling writes it... and then there's Rowling's sugges-
tion that she wants to go back and rewrite the whole series when she's
done...

I don't think that's possible if the book is shorter than OotP there will be
some questions left to answer no doubt about that.

Are you kidding? There always will be people who didn't get the end,
asking stupid questions, saying theories for us to laugh at, wondering
where book 8 is going to be out...
Jokes aside, no matter how it ends, it will be lots of speculation
about, IMO, so I think we'll have group for long after the book seven
sees light :)
This prompted me to wonder will JKR start another series?
> (This may have been covered but I don't remember).
She will continue with the HP encyclopaedia, later, we don't know.

Well, look at the Tolkien and Lewis groups: they are still quite active,
so, I will probably stay around until I have nothing else to say.

There always be speculation about certain characters or situations that
won't be completely covered nor fully understood by readers, or even
ourselves, so, there will afh-p for a long time, IMO

IMHO, this news group will exist as long as there are readers who enjoy the
books. Posters may come and go but the newsgroup will most likely stay
around as long as there is an internet.

Unless Harry dies, there'll be more than enough fanfics to keep us all
occupied for the rest of our lives. Hell, even if Harry does die,
they'll be there. Either stories without him or how he defeated death.
I'm not worried about the series ending.
I'm more concerned with *how* JKR will end the series. After a six book
build-up, book seven better be one hell of a story.

I agree with you. Considering the hysteria that will be going on until
the last book comes out, it's almost going to seem anticlimactic. I
hope she answers all the questions in that book!

I fear several will still insist they are right, and JK somehow wrong,
but leaving things hinted at and opened ended.

But did she really think HP would be so wide ranged age wise? We
might like it even more than HP, gasp. Remnemebr, a lot of college
students like the kiddie centric Nicktoons. Many dig Spongebob,
Fairly Oddparents, or yesteryear's Ren and Stimpy. Infact, later eps
of Fairly would feature in jokes of sorts fort he older lot.

Rowling has stated before no more Harry Potter series after book 7.
She may still do side series or one shot books here and there to add
side stories to the main series.
And there's always fanfictions. There's quite a few really good
fanfics out there that takes place at the end of the books.

And as long are there are those who refuse to read the books and insist
the movies are *it* for the world of Harry Potter... yet want all the
background and answers to their questions that could be found if they
would just READ THE FREAKING BOOKS!!!

Now THAT is very sporting of you. I am reserving a ticket on the Chunnel

I wonder if it'll go the way of a.f.pern.... slowly dwindling down over
the years.
It's true though, I imagine there will be a lot of people who will
write fanfics and depending on when the series ends chronologically
(I still wonder how Harry and Co. will get the remaining Horcruxes
w/o some major assistance and time) I'm sure there's a lot that
people will write about.
HP and the Return of Voldemort?
HP and the First Born Kid?
Etc. =)
