he is a teenage protage. as far as i know 12yr olds are still not teenagers
in the magic world.

Rita Skeeter is a hack, a "writer" for gossip's sake, she's in no way
interested in "facts" or the "truth".

Harry tends to age one year every 365 days.

my point was how would it be a bigger mistake for harry to be 14 when he
supossed to 14 yrs old?

It's NOT a mistake, She cares little for the actual truth of her articles,
just what is most sensational. She repeatedly reports Harry as 12 because
that is more dramatic to her readers, even though Harry repeatedly corrects
her "mistake." Much the same way she calls Hermione a very pretty witch
when she (Rita) first reports Hermione is (falsely) dating Harry, then most
unflatteringly when she reports Hermione dumped Harry for Victor.
