Had not seen this discussed before, if it has, keep on trucken.
(HBP)
Is it possible that the Snapes old potions book used to belong to Riddle
(V) ? since it was published around the same time that Riddle (V) was at
school. first Riddles book , then Snapes ?
so that some of the writing may belong to Riddle himeslf..
also possbily the last Horcrux ?
Just a thought.

Hi, just a quick note for you. I've not seen you around however, I've seen
that you've not read the books (which you really should do, they're great)
But if you look around the Horcrux posts you'll find this was discussed. I
know there are thousands but if you have a question take a few minutes to
look around. HTH :)

It's not likely; it doesn'y fit the mode.

I thought the book in the Chamber of Secrets was a Horcrux. It looked
just like an ordinary book. I don't recall that it was an ancient book
owned by the founder of one of the houses or something like that.
I don't think JKR would use a book as a Horcrux twice. But since a
relatively ordinary object was used once, why not twice. The first
Horcrux was created when LV was young, maybe some of the other ones
were also. When he was older and more powerful, he looked for older
more powerful places to create his Horcrux in.

Harry asked the same question. It wasn't just an ordianary object; DD
replied: "The diary, as you have said yourself, was proof that he was the
heir of Slytherin; I am sure that Voldemort considered it of stupendous
importance"

Just a lurker, read ALL the books several times, read the posts when
there is NO arguing, or trolls. and post only when I see a need.

There was a recent discussion of who owned the book. A couple people
suggested Riddle. I believe it was last week. I can't remember which
thread title.

I want someone to tell me why only the original owner can write in
their books, and nobody else ever can thereafter?

I think that one of V's Horcruxes is his 'Services to the School' award
or similar. Like Dumbledore said, he likes to collect trophies.

Beats me. I have written in text books, and many of them were used
before I bought them.

IIRC, in this particular case, all the handwriting was the same.
As far as we know, the book had two owners: Eileen, and Severus.
Eileen was a Gobstones champ, but may not have bothered to write
in her schoolbook; she may have used Scourgio to clean the pages
before she gave it to Severus, or he may have cleared away notes
that she had made.
