I've recently come to learn about wikipedia, and have been in some
reguards amazed with the level of detail that it contains with respect
to anything, and sometimes shocked with the lack of knowledge. One of
the best that I've found is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R.A.B , about
R.A.B. It's truly amazing. One that I've found lacking is anything
about book 7, previous to my, well, copying of a fair amount of stuff,
there was almost nothing. I'm sure with a bit of work, we could get the
whole thing as amazing as with R.A.B.

You should read the discussion page for Book Seven. There used to be
a lot more stuff on that page, but it was (correctly, in my opinion)
removed as speculation. There are other Wiki pages for Book Seven
speculation, which I don't recall off the top of my head, but I think
they are mentioned on the talk page for Book Seven.

It is, however, written and edited by people just like you and me, so it's
not always accurate.

Yes. My comment was not regarding its accuracy, but its purpose. An
encyclopedia, however fallible, is not intended to contain speculation
from fans.

If that is the case, then why bother posting about a book that hasn't
even been published yet? Still, there are things that we are at least
90% confident about, and Wikipedia could be a nice way to go about
collecting these facts, without any of the opinions that the fan sites
generally toss in.

Some of those things are in fact on that page (or were, the last I
checked).

I've seen a list of fairly certain reports about Book Seven on one of
the fan sites, but it's true that it is a bit difficult to find.

Wikipedia has good and accurate information about HP and the best of
all: neutral :)

It's quite more accurate than many sites you see around.

It's supposed to be neutral, but with popular topics, such as Harry
Potter, it can become partial.

That's not the only place. I've heard of famous living people going on to
Wiki to edit out any negative things said in entries about them.

I know it's not the only place--that's why I said "such as Harry
Potter." :)

There was an example of the reverse a few months ago, a famous case
involving John Siegenthaler, Sr.

There is nothing on Book 7 because there is no Book 7. Can't upload
info that doesn't exist.

But people there are always going over the info, voting on what to do
with it, to make it as accurate as can be.

The only thing that Wiki has is the links to the fan sites, nothing
really original. I've been thinking of a way to post what we know about
book 7, in a format that is neutral. Right now the site basically is
wiped clean anytime anyone tries to post "Speculation", so, as it
hasn't been published yet, there's nothing there, at least,
worthwhile...

I think "encyclopedia" is rather too strong a word and
"anyoldcrapapedia" might be a more accurate description.

Well, it can occasionally contain useful information. For any
interested, I started a new outline for the book 7 page, which I hope
will grow, any contributions would be nice.

So long as the subject matter isn't particularly hot, Wikipedia is
generally pretty good; in some cases (especially in science and
technology), better than paper encyclopedias.

I agree; even on the "hot" topics they do better than most staying neutral.

I would also add that some items of pop culture it tends to do quite
well on, especially if it's older, but still popular, for example,
Klingons.
