Late the other night, I was reading OotP (US version), which is really
not that uncommon. :) I was on Chapter 34 ("The Department of
Mysteries"), and such was the hour that I was really reading more from
memory than by text. I managed to reach the end of the chapter without
falling asleep, and was admiring the spidery writing on the prophecy
when a thought occurred to me.
Who "wrote" all these different fonts? At the very least, we see the
handwriting of all four Marauders, Snape, Dumbledore, and Hagrid, and
many signatures besides. Hermione's exam schedule (PoA) is clearly
handwritten.
My first (and somewhat hopeful) thought was that JKR did them - but
then I've seen the state of her handwriting. And these character fonts
aren't even in the British versions of the books anyway.
I've been doing research, reading interviews, and Googling like my life
depended on it, since I got home a few hours ago. While the results of
this research were spectacularly entertaining (and rather addictive), I
found nowhere on the web detailing the calligraphy in the books.
Anyone know who did them?

If you go to www.geocities.com/tatesha/HarryPotterAF1.html, I think
you'll find the information you're looking for.

Thanks very much! I suppose I was searching for the wrong thing - a
single person who created those fonts or something of that sort.
Obviously that search was fruitless.
It's wonderful to know that there are people here you can count on.

Glad I could help. I know how confusing and frustrating it can be
trying to find something!

I've heard that Rosie O'Donnell, a well known Harry Potter fan from
long before it became a global phenomena, desperately wanted to play
the part of Mrs. Weasley in the movies, but the director didn't want
her. JKR liked O'Donnell, so to make her feel better used her
handwriting in the American edition of book 4 in the letter to the
Dursleys from Mrs. Weasley.

There's a reason why you listed him in your "HP little survey" post as
"good-looking and sexy"! That "magical" connection!

I could not imagine a more disastrous bit of casting.
