Going camping for the week end.
My Scout troop is finishing up thier Pioneering Meritbage project.
We are building a Trebuchet out of wood sticks and lashing it
together. It will stand about 10 feet tall and if I have done the math
right should throw a ten pound bowling ball a fair didtance :))

*gasps* I should be doing a week long survival camp soon, though I think I
may need to complete a similar Pioneering badge to gain entry...

My troop never let us build stuff like that.
Have fun!

My troop is planning on doing a similar Pioneering project, but I doubt
it will get anywhere. As does a lot of the stuff we plan.

Being Scout Master has it's rewards :)
...
The Treb worked...but not as well as we hoped. Considering that fact
that we/I made the design up as I went along, the fact that it worked
at all was a relief. It would chuck a 5 pound rock 30 feet...But I
could throw the same rock by hand some feet farther :(
The problem is two fold, that arm dosen't swing fast enough and the
sling releases to soon. The rock lets go and has a tragectory to high
of an arc. We think the design of the arm to be good but we need a
better and heavier counter-weight. We were using a five gallon bucket
of water. We also need to come up with a better sling. I need to do
some research on designs of a sling.
I don't have web site anymore, so I will have to put some pics up in a
test group...not tonight, i am really tired...Young, irresponsible,
over medicated and under disiplined kids can be...tiresome at best.
But now that they have seen some of the fun we can have, they may be
more receptive to listening to what I have to say :)

The web site seems to be up now... or is it just pointing to
dragonbathhouse.150m.com temporarily?
Anyway, I sent you an e-mail message... did you get it? I used Google
Groups, but can't seem to find it in Sent mail (in Gmail). That might
just be a Google Groups feature.

I let the 150meg.com account slip into the 'free' version, which sucks
as everything is plastered with banner adds so I cound that account as
dead. I will be moving to a new place sooner or later.
