| Master Jorus C'baoth and Outbound Flight (spoiler) [message #236476] |

Just finished Tim Zahn's latest SW book, Outbound Flight. He does a
nice job of presenting a younger Thrawn and tying the Clone Wars era
to the New Jedi Order. The "Far Outsiders" are mentioned and we know
these will turn out to be the Yuuzhan Vong of the NJO.
However, since Jorus C'baoth is killed in the attack on Outbound
Flight, I am wondering how (or if) Zahn will address the cloning of
C'baoth that occurs later.

I guess we'll have to wait and see how Zahn handles it. The other
thing I found interesting was that Thrawn was by no means an evil
character. It makes me wonder more about his character development to
the Thrawn trilogy. He is such an interesting character that it seems
a shame he was killed off. But I guess there was no other way by that
point.

I was wondering about that myself. Cloning has been around for a
long time, its possible that C'Baoth knowing he was going to be gone a
long time created the clone himself just to keep himself visible,
perhaps without intending his clone to ever have Jedi abilities that
would eventually drive him insane.
There is another problem though, according to the books Outbound
Flight took place long before the Clone Wars ever started and he was
killed during it, but in Dark Force Rising they say that he opposed a
Dark Jedi insurrection on Bpfassh that took place either during the
Clone Wars or shortly thereafter, its possible that that was the
clone.
Its mind boggling just how big the Clone Wars acutally were, I mean
they were literally all over the galaxy, but I'd find it hard to
believe that the Jedi didn't know that C'Baoth turned up for the
battle and then vanished afterward, after all, he did avoid Vader and
the Emperor and sat out the entire Purge.
A lot of records were also altered by the Emperor after he took power,
I suppose it possible that at least some of them were skewed when they
were trying to learn about it.
Or we can just chalk it up to author error and ignore it.
Let me know what you think,
Ears

I think there are so many characters and scenarios that there is bound
to be an error somewhere.
Personally, I hated the C'Baoth character. He was just such an
asshole I wanted him to get killed. You'd think at some point Yoda
would have gotten medieval on his ass just to teach him some humility.

Well he sure wasn't the most congienal charactor, but your right, its
surprising that he never got taken down a peg.
It really REALLY begs the question then, who the HELL cloned him and
why!!!!!

Yeah, it does. I wonder if Zahn has any plans to write one more book
to close that hole.

They hinted a tiny bit that it was C'Baoth himself, but now that I
think about it I truly doubt it for one primary reason: C'Baoth with
an ego bigger than the known universe could never stand the thought of
there being another one of him in the universe.
What's more, the Jedi were disbanded so quickly after the war ended
I'm sure that it couldn't have been them.
Maybe Palpatine just wanted a Jedi Master to show up quicly and be
defeated quickly in order to feed the anti-Jedi seneario.
What's more, considering his attitude he would have been perfect for
the part.
