"I'm too lazy to translate the whole article published by Swiss
newspaper Sonntagszeitung, but there are some very interesting details
and tidbits in there:"
http://debrief.commanderbond.net/index.php?showtopic=29626
- Replying to craignotbond.com, Martin Campbell said: "I am convinced
that Craig is the best actor who has ever - and I mean ever - played
James Bond".
- He added that GoldenEye "was a Bond formula movie, but that led into
a dead end. We cannot go and blast away control centres for another ten
years. We're going back to the beginning: No CGI, but good old fist
fights."
- Answering the obligatory Pierce Brosnan question, Campbell said "It's
not personal. It has nothing to do with Pierce. But we re-boot the
whole franchise. We show that Bond will suffer from emotional and
physical pain. Honestly, we couldn't do that with Pierce."
- Craig has a normal driver's license. He is allowed to and he can
drive cars with gear shift.
- Craig indeed is a little bit sun-burned, but he said: "Tell me
someone from the cast or crew who isn't."
- Craig goes to the gym for two hours every day after wrapping.
- Alex Witt: "We're kind of afraid of Daniel in a bulldozer, because he
drives like the devil."
- Casting director Debbie McWilliams: "We did actual screentests with
five actors." Of course she wouldn't say who they were, but she added:
"Beyond Daniel, one English guy, two from Australia and one from former
Yugoslavia." O'Lachlan, Visnjic anyone?
- Campbell: "The last line of the book will be the last line of the
film. And yes, Eva's Vesper is going to die". Suicide, as in the book?
"We won't tell", Campbell said. "But the beast is going to die anyway".
- As already hinted on the production skills from the Bahamas, Caterina
Mourino's Solonge will be a horse lover
- Barbara Broccoli: "We are aware that filming book #1 as film #21
doesn't make any sense. It's total nonsense. But it's fun".
- And finally the big bang: Is the new gunbarrel already shot? Craig:
"Maybe". Maybe? Now what's this for an answer? Craig: "Yes, it is shot.
But on the other hand it isn't. It'll be a bit of a surprise, so stay
tuned".

Two hours in the gym every day? I don't think even Roger Moore worked
out that much . . .

Taking a calculated guess, I assume they were:
Henry Cavill
Julian McMahon
Alex O'Lachlan
Goran Visnjic
Rikki Lee Travolta

The other chap on the list could have been Sam Worthington. I think
McMahon turned down the role (or his agent told him too or McMahon
asked for too much) and Sam Worthington was considered. I believe that
was reported.

O yes he did!
Roger even several times left early to go to the gym. One hour lifting
the left eyebrow & one hour lifting the other...

It only struck me earlier today that Campbell, paraphrasing the last
line of Fleming's novel, may well have used the word 'bitch' in the
original interview: it's come out as 'beast' here because the text of
his answer has been translated into German and then back into English.
It would certainly make more sense than what's quoted here.
I'm sure you all worked this out already, so apologies if this post is
even more redundant than my usual blather... :-)
Best
Phil
