No, Rob...congenital, not genetic---the words have different meaning, unless you
went to a school where creationism was the core of the biological sciences course.
As for Spitzer's study, it was poorly conducted and even Spitzer repudiated the use
that people from the Christian Right have put it to.
A review of the study model found the following flaws:
1) He advertised for "ex gay" subjects on Dr Laura
2) They were uniformly employed by the ex-gay movement of Focus and made their
living as such
3) They answered a questionairre and self reported chastity, though there are
members of the group known to have relapesed
rather publically
4) Spitzer's validity scale(null hypothesis) value was in error since it did not
account for the external coercion to maintain
"straight" behaviour.
5) Recalculated, including selection bias and still not addressing probability of
errors in the questionairre responses, the study
was found to be statistically invalid on a mathematical basis alone without
addressing the underlying issues.
6) Spitzer has aknowledged all of this.
