There's something very wrong with you. It would probably help if you
just... you know... came out.

I posted this in another newsgroup. Will add here: if Craig reads the
Casino Royale novel, he might retract his statement when he sees the
context of the chapter(s) in which Bond is without clothes!

I don't know much about Craig and am reserving judgment about how well
he'll do as 007. However, my opinion of him has worsened after hearing
a fluff article about him on a national news radio segment a few
minutes ago.

Would you believe Craig is quoted as saying he's willing to do a full
frontal nude shot in the movie if the producers want it!

Very bad! James Bond is supposed to be a distinguished gentleman. In
the Ian Fleming novels, Bond is sometimes naked, but Fleming's wording
is very decent, avoiding gratuitous sexual or anatomical terminology.

Craig is completely clueless about Bond films. He says there are full
frontal nude females in Bond films all the time, that therefore he
should be in such shots also.

Craig is dead wrong! The women in Bond films are sometimes scantily
clad, but the camera angles tend to do a strategy made fun of in the
Austin Powers movies: the nudity is covered by items between the camera
and the person. A couch pillow blocks Jill's golden behind in
Goldfinger. When Bond and Tiger are in Japanese baths, underwater
ledges block any view of their you-know-whats. The opening credits of
Bond movies show some apparently nude female silhouettes, but they're
either too obscure to really show anything, or there are the Austin
Powers style items in front of them. You might be able to spot obscure
breasts on a gal in the opening credits of The Spy Who Loved Me (ABC
painted a top on her when they showed Bond films a couple years ago),
but as a whole, the images are tasteful. Several movies show a woman
topless for a frame or two, but I don't think any show a woman
bottomless without being obscured by water or some other obscuring
device, and the shots certainly aren't intentional the way Craig wants
people to intentionally film his "mini-me".

Craig's statements show he has no respect for the Bond franchise; he's
clearly willing to cheapen Bond films in an attempt to sell out to gays
and the perverted women who like that kind of stuff. Perhaps Craig
noticed the success of Brokeback Mountain and wants to appeal to that
movie's demographics?

It would be good if the movie leaves in the scene in which Craig got
hit with a real punch that knocked out his teeth. It would be
realistic and gritty, and it would be a shame to endure such a painful
blow without the reward of it appearing in the film!

Will this make "Casino Royale" the first R-rated Bond movie? If
there is frontal nudity, you can be sure it will generate an R rating.

I hope you're not trolling here, man, because all that's happened is
that Craig's kiddingly said that in some interview or other that he
doesn't care one way or another about doing nude scenes, and that if
EON asked him to do so, he'd consider it. Since he knows damn well
that isn't going to happen, the whole subject falls under the category
of 'harmless irony'. Lighten up. It's not going to happen, and Craig
knows that as well as anybody. He's just playing along with a reporter
who's having a joke about the idea.

James Bond is not a "distinguished gentleman." As a spy, there should
be nothing "distinguished" about the guy. As for being a "gentleman,"
I would refute this, too. Ian Fleming's James Bond doesn't even drink
tea! He's clearly a cad, again an un-gentlemanly quality. As for this
idea that Fleming's works were somehow "decent" and avoided sexual
content out of a sense of purity, you can forget that. I've no doubt
that, were Ian Fleming writing James Bond today, his works would be
among the most explicit on the market. It's like Las Vegas. When it
first appeared, it was hardcore. Then, the myth about it was built up
and, in the effort to appeal to the masses, it was toned down and made
more family friendly, losing its edge.

Maybe there haven't been full frontal female nudity in the Bonds, but
if they want to fix that, I'm all for it. Partly because, y'know, I'm
a guy, but partly also because I'd like to see Bond shirk the PG-13
friendliness in favor of something we can take a little more seriously.
Brosnan was right: Bond *should* have erotic sex and not just kissing
with implied sex, and the violence *should* mean something again and
not just be fodder for the video game generation.
